This is not the original Pale Ale as brewed in far away 1993 in the back of the Old House of Richards Building in West Marin hamlet of Forest Knolls right next to little Lagunitas. It is way better. Back then the beer tasted like broccoli and kerosene and the carbonation ate right through and drained your stomach into your gut...

Pint @ Nickerson. Man, I love the West Coast. This "pale" may as well be a IPA. Beautiful hops and a subdued malt profile that mostly just gets the hell out of the way.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2012 1) Stale old bottle, Birthday Feathers’ Owl-Drawing Crawl, BrewDog Nottingham...erm, Nottingham, 30/07/12. Dull orange, broken halo of head. Big sickly peach flan aroma. Soggy medicinal peach Soothers flavour with pot pourri. Forced it down at £6 a bottle. Yuck. (434310=2.4) 2) Fresh bottle slugged on the Sausalito-Fisherman’s Wharf ferry, 16/08/12. Peach and lychee aroma. Guava, mango and peachy hop punchily bittered. Hints of leafiness, maybe mint, late husk.

Umm. Delicious. Makes me aroused. Want to make love to this pale ale. I want to freeze it in the winter and skate on it then thaw it in the summer and drink it ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. An almost clear one, golden in color and topped by a small, off-white, dense head. Nice citrusy and piney hops in the aroma, with some room for the maltyness. Bitterness, oranges and malty sweetness in the flavor, most focused on the hops. Medium to full body, with pleasant carbonation, bitter finish. A tasteful, pleasant and quenching beer I’d be happy to return to. 111209

Long Island, NY - 12 oz. bottled poured dark clear burnt orange color with very little head. Aroma was very very hoppy. with a hint of malt. Initial taste was surely hoppy with a hint of pine and some citrus. Aftertaste was not so bad a little bit of malt and a slight bitterness. Overall this is a pretty good parallel but I have to say that Lagunitas original pale ale much better. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear deep golden pour with a frothy white head. Nose is sweet baked bread malts with some light piny and citrus malt. Flavor is much lighter than aroma would lead to believe and more citrusy and pine aspect. I shit you not, I think Liquor Loft needs to rotate their singles selection.

(bottle) Crystal clear pale amber with a medium off-white head. Very floral and fruity aroma; orange, grapefruit, grass, perfume, light pine, peach. Light to medium body, oily texture, some soft carbonation. Flavor of citrus peel, grass, pine, orange, grapefruit, wood. Fairly hoppy, but a little thin.

Draft at Keg N Kitchen in Westmont, NJ. Pours a clear golden orange color with tangerine hues and a one finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring.  Good retention with streaks of soapy lacing left behind. Earthy hop aroma with notes of citrus and tropical fruit.  Slightly resinous with some grass/pine and a pale malt backbone.  Nose dominated by hints of orange peel, grapefruit and mango. Medium bodied but fuller than expected with a great balance of dry bitterness, citrus/tropical fruit and pale malt.  Dry and bitter up front with some grassy pine flavor countered by orange rind, grapefruit and mango.  Subtle malt backbone but just enough to balance things out.  Easy drinking and very flavorful.  More like an ipa than a pale ale.
