There are two kinds. There is the DayTime kind, which is bright and welcoming and then there is the NightTime kind, which should never be confused with the DayTime. NightTime is dark and deep and may take you to unexpected places, places that the DayTime cannot. But then, the NightTime is not suited for ordinary life and ordinary tasks. In fact, NightTime may be the answer for that sort of thing, meaning that those sorts of things may never get done. Things take time in the NightTime, things slow down and you can puase (you have to, actually) and investigate carefully to find that level of objective detachment that is only possible under the spell of the NightTime. Seek the Day, but fear not the Night.

This beer is black with a large, pillowy light brown head, and the aroma blends resin and floral hops with roasted malts. The taste doesn’t initially hit you as many black IPAs do because the slight umami doesn’t overwhelm the mild bitterness and slight sourness from the hops; however, the malty bitterness does come through more in the finish as the hop flavor fades slightly. The palate rounds this beer out nicely with the slick texture, medium body, and a soft carbonation.

Look: pours a dark brown. Light tan head. Thick lacing. Smell: very hop forward. Pine. Citrus. Very bitter. Dark roasted maltiness. Taste: dark roasted malts. Slight pine. Grapefruit. Lemon. Tangerine. Feel: very dry. Leaves a thin film on the mouth. Medium carbonation. Overall: great black IPA. Very hop forward. Love the way there is a slight maltiness to it. A little more balanced than a normal IPA. First drank: home 8/21/14

A solid VERY aromatic black IPA. The nose is fantastic (9.5)...as hoppy as hop stoopid with just enough dark malts to balance and make more complex. your nose will continually wander back to the glass or bottle. Feel is a little lighter than expected, as is the flavor (given the aroma) but this is solid across the board and one of their best. A very nice addition to the black ipa family :

22 oz bottle from Whole Foods, Dublin, OH, for $5.99, into 16 oz tumbler. Super dark near-black garnet brown; massive, ridiculous, creamy, white brown head; huge amounts of lacing left behind by a quarter-inch layer of head that’s still in place with less than 2 oz of liquid in the glass--insane. Deep, sweet, dark aroma, yet bright citrus underlies the whole thing; caramel, brown sugar, toffee, with floral notes. Lots of light, silky carbonation. Medium-full mouthfeel; medium sticky yet oily and slick. This would rank very, very highly for me if I were more a fan of the style.

On tap at Brass Tap, Pembrook Pines with Z, pours a pitch black color with a nice java head. Nose is deep citrus, with a predominance of passion fruit , very fragrant. Taste is citrus, with a predominance of mostly grapefruit with some resin and pine. Finish is again citrusy with a long lingering bitter sweet finish. Great BIPA. Quaff Score 8 / 10

On tap at Brass Tap Pembroke Pines. Pours black with a brown head and aroma of sweet hops, citrus, and tropical fruits. Taste is bitter, hops, citrus, and tropical fruits with roasted malt and burnt notes underlying leading into the slight bitter, dry, roasty smooth finish. Great black IPA

On tap...the pour is black silk and the mouthfeel follows - incredibly smooth - my mouth was overjoyed with this substance in it. Very complex with lots of subtle flavors making themselves known and yet all in harmony. May all beers aspire to be this good.

Visual: Pours dark cola brown with a smallish but super long lasting top-foamy/bottom bubbly head, a wall of super sticky lacing, a meteor shower of CO2 activity. Nose: lively grapefruit citrus hops despite its stout-like appearance (lvl-6)-pungency Attack: incoming hops Mid-palate: immediate pineapple, ultra bright (lvl-6)-sweetness, fizzy, (MAIN) soft caramel malts, resin, *hint* chocolate Finish: sweet malts + sharp pine/grapefruit hopped bitterness, a touch of roast. Summary: A heroic balance of bitter hopped character, bright fruitiness, dark malts and gentle sweetness. Full-bodied and very drinkable, all for a great price.

Bottle. Pours black with a foamy tan head. Brilliant C-hop aroma with a hint of roasted grains. Taste is well-balanced; starts off sweet with citrus fruits, moves into licorice, roasty notes, and a bitter finish creeps up. Silky smooth body. Very nice.
