There are two kinds. There is the DayTime kind, which is bright and welcoming and then there is the NightTime kind, which should never be confused with the DayTime. NightTime is dark and deep and may take you to unexpected places, places that the DayTime cannot. But then, the NightTime is not suited for ordinary life and ordinary tasks. In fact, NightTime may be the answer for that sort of thing, meaning that those sorts of things may never get done. Things take time in the NightTime, things slow down and you can puase (you have to, actually) and investigate carefully to find that level of objective detachment that is only possible under the spell of the NightTime. Seek the Day, but fear not the Night.

Aroma hits you quickly...u can smell it from a distance. Which is very fine in my eyes. Very lagunitas when it comes to the aroma and taste. This lacks in the roasted malt character I like in my black iPas... It's real good though...mmmmmmm and like a $4.00 bomber. The every mans beer company. Thanks! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2015 version from Stone in Asagaya. Pours a deep brown with a nice beige head that lasts throughout. Lots of aromas going on with milk chocolate, resin, coffee and dark fruit all noticeable. Great carbonation with a slightly sticky mouthfeel. The chocolate really comes out in the finish. Good bitterness that lingers.

Pitch black pour with a tight tan head. Very piney aroma with white grapefruit, roasted malts and a hint of smokiness. Flavor matches the aroma perfectly with a bitter sweet chocolate ending. Medium plus bodied with smooth carbonation

Roasty, but crisp. Hints of coffee and nuts, earthy with a nice balance of hops. Bitterness is kept to a minimum.

Bottle. Dark brown, nearly black pour with a thick beige head. Fairly mild aroma, some roasty malts and bright citrus showing through, a bit of creamy chocolate. Taste is big bright citrus with a crisp bitter edge, but supported by rich, roasty malt, fairly thick texture and a bit of a creamy chocolate finish. More fruity as it warms. A really nice black IPA with a lot of body and a good balance.

On tap at The Ginger Man, NY. An almost black one, topped by a finger-thick, dense, light beige head. The aroma is lightly roasted, with pine cones, orange zest and resins. It’s full-bodied and semi-dry with a nice carbonation level and flavors of light roasted malts, zest and pine cones and a nice bitterness. Lightly roasted hop dominated finish. Quite lovely this one, more focused on the hops than the malts, which is the way I like it. 150624
