There are two kinds. There is the DayTime kind, which is bright and welcoming and then there is the NightTime kind, which should never be confused with the DayTime. NightTime is dark and deep and may take you to unexpected places, places that the DayTime cannot. But then, the NightTime is not suited for ordinary life and ordinary tasks. In fact, NightTime may be the answer for that sort of thing, meaning that those sorts of things may never get done. Things take time in the NightTime, things slow down and you can puase (you have to, actually) and investigate carefully to find that level of objective detachment that is only possible under the spell of the NightTime. Seek the Day, but fear not the Night.

well this is an interesting one. the appearance is coca-cola dark brown with a nice light brown head. the aroma is.... interesting. There is pine and resin present, but then there’s an oil-like aroma. It reminds me a whole lot of the plains of northern Texas: you know that smell of oil? Yea it’s strange, and I’m not sure what to make of it. Thank goodness the taste doesn’t follow the aroma. it’s very pleasant actually. Lots of citrus, resin, pine, and floral notes here. The slightest bit of roast is there, almost non-existent. The more I sip on it the more I like it. Just not a big fan of the aroma, unfortunately. Nice sticky mouthfeel, too.

Split this bottle with my dad this weekend. The pour into the pint glass is dark and mysterious with a frothy tan head. Smells of obvious hops with roasty malt and sugars. Taste is sweet at first and then smacks you with hop bite, fruits and piney resin overcome the sticky finish. A lovely BIPA indeed. Thanks Lagunitas!

All beers containing Summit hops should bear a warning label. WARNING SUMMIT HOPS. Dark pour, some kind of head, blah blah blah. Garlicky, onion like hops over a sweet chocolate base. The sweetness and bitterness were well balanced, but they chose summit hops. Yuck.

Pours dark brown with a thick light tan head. Aroma is heavy pine and roasted malts. Taste is initially the piney hops followed very quickly by rich rich malts and light syrup. That is followed by a substantially malty finish - the hop bitterness takes a back seat. This black IPA is very well done. Awesome!

Black with a thick off white head. Aroma is roasted malt with a touch of citrus from the hops. Flavor is bitter hops followed by a strong roasted malt. Hops come out more as it warms (or with spicy food). Very well balanced black IPA, not as muddy as some. Finish is bitter and a bit dry with a tiny bit of sweetness. Wife: 4

Dark brown pour with a small tan head. Nice lacing. The aroma is burnt bakers chocolate and resinous, piney, tangerine hops. The flavor goes from sweet, to fruity to roasty, then finishes bitter. Fairly well balanced, with some residual sweetness keep this from being too astringent or bitter.

Bomber bottle: Pours midnight black. More black malts than hops on the nose. Chocolate, toffee, roasted aroma. This is a black IPA which I am not a big fan of the style. But this is a very pleasant beer with balance. Overall, it hides its 8.6% ABV very well and has a refreshing, bittering finish.

Draught at Bruekelen Bier Merchants. Pours with a nice head and some lace. Aroma is sweet beautifully west coast hopped with really well integrated roast. Flavor is the same. Feel is fairly lively with bitter mouth watering and roast taking over. Really love this BIPA. might by redeeming the style.

Decent tan head. Has a good hoppy/malty aroma typical of black IPAs but with an almost sour/roasty note (but not in a bad way). The same comes through in the taste. Pretty good black IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

ours black with a brown head and aroma of sweet hops, citrus, and tropical fruits. Taste is bitter, hops, citrus, and tropical fruits with roasted malt and burnt notes underlying leading into the slight bitter, dry, roasty smooth finish. Great black IPA
