There are two kinds. There is the DayTime kind, which is bright and welcoming and then there is the NightTime kind, which should never be confused with the DayTime. NightTime is dark and deep and may take you to unexpected places, places that the DayTime cannot. But then, the NightTime is not suited for ordinary life and ordinary tasks. In fact, NightTime may be the answer for that sort of thing, meaning that those sorts of things may never get done. Things take time in the NightTime, things slow down and you can puase (you have to, actually) and investigate carefully to find that level of objective detachment that is only possible under the spell of the NightTime. Seek the Day, but fear not the Night.

$4.49 bomber at Trader Joes. Pours with a big smell of dried hops. Black thick body with a slightly off-white head, though a bit more ocher to the pouring part. Nose when Im drinking is strong on Amarillos or Citras. A fruity ale background builds on some grapefruit hop character. A bit grainy, with warming alcohol along the background. Great value.

22oz bottle. Pours out a dark brown almost black topped with a tan head. Nose is pine roast grapefruit and a nice malty sweetness. Taste is as the nose with lots of hops and dark roast pretty good.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque except at the edges dark black brown colored body. The mild aroma was musty and mild hop. The crisp mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish with a mellow hoppy aftertaste. The mild flavor contained notes of bitter black malt mild spice mild hops crisp and hops. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.

20 oz bottle. Pours an extra stout like black, pillowy tan head, some lacing. Big pine and grapefruit aromas. Full oily mouthfeel, bitter coffee, black chocolate, pine, grapefruit all in the taste.

drank this in the dark while watching some dvds. smells of kiwi, and mango with some pencil shavings. i liked the 1st half of the 3. yep, nice hop presence, but the light roast was not something that played well. just a bit vacant to support that kind of hop bite. sweet fruit and tea leaves.a nice contradiction in that it was thick, yet had a thin flavor. ahh, mouthfeel versus flavor. good times. i love a hoppy porer, but i can now say that this india black ale style is not something i will go after again, similar to the sour stouts and porters of a few years back that i had to admit defeat and walk away from, only this style is drinkable with a few pleasant notes.

(Bottle). Pours a deep brown with ample tan head and glass lacing. Mild hop aroma. Mellowed hop flavor balanced by roasted malts. Silky palate. Nicely balanced and well done for the style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a lighter black with a huge head. Aroma of malt and lots of hops. Tastes interesting. I get lots of hops with sweet malt and tons of pepper flavor. Not to big on the pepper flavor. This one is ok.

Big bottle. Poured a very dark brown color with a medium sized head. Aroma of hops, caramel, toffee bread. Medium heavy body, creamy texture. Bitter finish. A pretty good BIPA.
