COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
There are two kinds. There is the DayTime kind, which is bright and welcoming and then there is the NightTime kind, which should never be confused with the DayTime. NightTime is dark and deep and may take you to unexpected places, places that the DayTime cannot. But then, the NightTime is not suited for ordinary life and ordinary tasks. In fact, NightTime may be the answer for that sort of thing, meaning that those sorts of things may never get done. Things take time in the NightTime, things slow down and you can puase (you have to, actually) and investigate carefully to find that level of objective detachment that is only possible under the spell of the NightTime. Seek the Day, but fear not the Night.

$4.49 bomber at Trader Joe’s. Pours with a big smell of dried hops. Black thick body with a slightly off-white head, though a bit more ocher to the pouring part. Nose when I’m drinking is strong on Amarillos or Citras. A fruity ale background builds on some grapefruit hop character. A bit grainy, with warming alcohol along the background. Great value.

Pours a very brownish black color with a thin head. Aromia is hops, grapefruit, floral, small pine, burning rubber. Taste is espresso, coffee beans, dark chocolate, citrus. Overall a very bitter but drinkable beer, not as malty as most of the style.

bottle. near black with two finger head. i’m some what over the black ipa trend, but this is outstanding. rather light body for the style. definitely a malty ipa rather than a hoppy stout. awesome hops.

crazyvin (1933) - New York, USA - AUG 26, 2014
A black body with a tan head that had great lace and retention. Aroma was of roasted malts and mostly grapefruit hops there was enough pine hops and a bit of mango. Flavor had mostly grapefruit hops. Roasted malts seem restrained and the pine hops provided enough balance. Easy to drink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 oz. bottle from Root Cellar. Pours an opaque brown with a finger of khaki head that leaves heavy lace in the glass. Notes of dark chocolate, citrus fruits (orange peel, mostly), earth, tobacco, toast, cocoa powder, dark fruits, and leaves. Light-medium bodied, with low to moderate carbonation and a roasty, chalky mouthfeel. Earthy black IPA. Drinks nicely.

From hazy memory, but I remember this being a pretty classic black IPA where everything was in good balance, but it was just missing something to put it over the top and make it sublime.

Bomber. Pours near black with a chalky brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of musty dark grains with light roast and an earthy pine backbone. Flavor begins with a pine and dark grain combination and finishes with a bit of roasted malt.

From a bottle. Pours black with a huge beige head. Aromas of floral hops and hay. Flavors are floral hops, cocoa, dark fruits, nuttiness, bready tones. Delicious!

On tap. Dark brown murky pour with small beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, grapefruit, pine, hops and faint caramel. Taste of caramel, roasted malts, slight fruits, pine, hops and grapefruit. Full bodied, medium carbonation, long sticky hop finish. Something not quite right with this one.

Poured from a bomber with no date on it. Aroma - deep tropical notes, with a hint of coffee. Appearance - Typical Lagunitas beer - very great looking. Taste - Very crisp. Very smooth with a nice smooth aftertaste. Palate - great lingering taste Overall - very good black ale.
