stefanje (483), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Apr 20, 2008 22 oz bottle from Bev4less in Santee. Pours a translucent amber brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is strong with caramel, lightly roasted malts, dates, plums and hops. The flavor is similar to the aroma, with the biter hops taking on a more pronounced role. The mouthfeel is malty full and satisfying. The finish is long and biter. Overall: If you are in the mood for a big biter barley wine, then this is a good choice. Recommended.
Nik925 (52), California, USA Jul 22, 2008 SUPER SWEET - great malt but a lot of it - a super lot. Great hop taste but not enough of it, alcohol taste is almost absent which is amazing, well made, but just too much malt sugars remain for me. fidel (69), Livermore, California, USA Jul 20, 2008 Amber, thick, sweet, fruity, piney, malty, alcohol, caramel, bready, hoppy finish. surffisher (131), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Jul 14, 2008 22 oz. bomber, pours a deep red-amber with a massive frothy tan head with good retention and lacing. Aroma is all piney hops on the pour with layers of toasty biscuity malts, caramel, and toffee coming later. Fruity esters are a bit subdued but include prunes and plums and some raisin. Flavor is nicely balanced, but dominated by the toasty malts with piney hops providing balance into a moderately dry finish. The body is medium to medium-full; smooth, with moderate carbonation and a perfect amount of warming. Overall, an excellent barleywine. Extrordinarily drinkable, as it balances a bit to the thin side, though still supportive of a relatively high ABV and full flavors. dunkpigen (253), Kolding, Denmark Jul 14, 2008 Bottle. Pours amber with a small offwhite head. Aroma and flavour are both sweet, althea drops with some hoppyness. sunevdj (1347), Copenhagen, Denmark Jul 13, 2008 Pours a clear red with a small tanned head. Smells of rye. Sweet with lots of rye and caramel flavours. Slightly bready. Full bodied. Low carboantion. Slightly bitter finish with an alcohol touch.
