On draught at roscoes 2011 - pours cloudy amber with medium brick off white head. Nose of malt, caramel, and grass. Definite aged taste with caramel and malt accents. Not a fan of aged barley wine however not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2008, 9.7%. Pours hazy mahogany with floating sediment and minimal tan head. Aroma of toffee and caramel mingling with a bit of pine, hint of tobacco. Similar in flavor: sweet candy toffee offset by mild hop bitterness and a little booze burn. Low carbonation is the only significant drawback here.

A - Nice amber mahogany body with a light khaki head. Small strings of lace. S - Toasted crackery toffee malt, apples, nuts, beef jerky cure, sugary cherries, grapes, hints of chocolate, bits of smokiness T - Candied orange peel, enveloped in thick slab of sugary cherry malt. Very toasted and nutty flavors going on. Caramel covered fruit comes out - cherries, grapes, apricots, cider apples. Hops bleed in to battle the dense vehement malts.... but there is only one victor. The impenetrable malt holds strong and the vaillant hops break the barrier just enough to bring a sense of balance to the iron fisted malts. M - Viscous, thick, full, syrupy at times, low carbonation. This is a big power slap in your fresh-shaven face! (In a good way) Fits perfectly in it’s style and it’s not afraid of...anything. It’s bold and strong and just enough hops to keep this in the American category. This is no surprise to an awesome brewery who is capable of breaking dimensions and curing diseases with there beers. UPDATED: JUN 20, 2013 A great beer for the price. From memory. Pours a mellow amber. Smells of citrus, pine, wood and malty. Taste is roasty, sweet and hoppy. Nice balance. Very smooth and mellow. Easy drinker for the style. A personal favorite of mine. Come on Lagunitas make some more!

(Rating #4680)

A copper color with a caramel head. Smells of malt, caramel, and a little toffee. A real sweet aroma overall with an alcohol presences. Really sweet flavor with caramel, malt, and fruity notes.

Bottle. Red somewhat clear pour with not much head to note. Lacing is not much either. Aromas and taste of dark fruits, sweet malts, tangy hops, pine, and toffee. A little bit boozey but not over the top. This is one of the rare cases where a Lagunitas beer needs more hops. The malt wins out slightly.
