stantheman (779) - British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 13, 2015
On tap at World of Beer in downtown Denver. Served in small goblet, a 10 ounce pour. A very dark cherry colored beer with moderate off white head and tart fruity nose. This is a big full-throated beer with a ton of fruity and bitter notes. Some malt there too. The last impression on the finish is a lingering bitterness. 4.

On draft at Golden Crust, Red Lion, PA served in an English pint glass. Pours orange-red, nice pillow head, nice lacing, decent retention. Aroma of pine, roasted malts. Taste is sweet, a little bitterness in the back. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, syrupy mouth feel. Finishes sweet. Tasting notes of dates, raisin, black cherry, burnt Belgian sugar and light pine. It’s a good barley wine but needs to be aged I would say.

Poured a dark copper with a thin off white head. Aroma of toffee, dark fruits, and herbal hops. Flavor is citrus, caramel, dark fruits, and. Medium full bodied with a slightly chewy moutfeel with a soft herbal bitterness accompanied by sweet malts. Hope are well balanced with the sweetness of the malt. A nice American Barley wine.

On tap at beer revolution... Pours a clear amber with a minimal ring and rich syrupy legs up the glass. Aroma of rich caramel, toffee, dark dried fruits, pine, resin and alcohol. Taste is rich caramel, toffee, dark dried fruits like raisins and dates, alcohol and a nice gentle bitterness that mixes nicely with the alcohol warmth on the finish. Great beer!

Pours clear medium amber with a short light beige head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, spotty lacing. (3/5) Nose is pine resin, dark boozy fruit, caramel and toffee. (8/10) Taste is moderately strong sweet, moderately strong bitter. (8/10) Medium body, moderate to low carbonation, warming and lingering bitter finish. (3/5) An interesting barleywine. At this age, it’s still pretty strongly hoppy, but surprisingly not excessively hot, especially for a double digit plus ABV. Right now, the bitterness of the hops is just as pronounced as the toffee malt and the alcohol heat. I’m not sure if I’d call it “balanced”, as such - more like an armed détente, given the magnitude of each of these players. I’d be interested in seeing what this turns into as it ages - I might pick up one or two more to cellar. (15/20)

Mahogany pour with a tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, malt, a little sweetness to it. Taste is sweet, light flavoring of dark fruits, malt, a little hops. Excellent beer. So tasty I would pay more for it. Great lacing.
