22 ounce bottle. Pours a dark ruby red color with a small disappearing beige head. Huge burnt sugar, alcohol and butterscotch aroma. Notes of resiny hops as well. Sweet malt flavor upfront. Lots of buttery brown sugar and light tobacco flavors. Bittersweet malt and spicy hops are the rule of thumb here. Notes of black pepper, marmalade and toffee. Complex and hoppy. A satisfying warming alcohol finish crowns this delicious barleywine ale.

This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a one finger white foamy head that gets bubbly as it dissipated. Light bubbly lacing sticks and slides.
The smell had a syrupy caramel malt over top of bitter citrus rind, a light tobacco also shows up as it warms up.
The taste combines the bitter citrus to the caramel mixes in a light toffee. Tobacco is slightly there but really light. Bitter citrus aftertaste leads to a semi-dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. Carbonated nicely as an American Barleywine, harshness pierces with an ample amount of bitterness but nothing over the top.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good American Barleywine but nothing really over the top.

Wow. A toffee-sweet initial taste that settles with a slight resinous hop bite. Pours a deep copper that holds lacing on the tulip glass. Aroma of honey. A bargain price too for a BW bomber - 5.99 - at my local beer haunt. Among the top BWs I’ve had. Like it a lot. Will be getting at least 6 btls to put away.

Bottle. Dark brown with a large off white head. Lots of caramel, toffee and dark fruit. Chewy, sticky mouthfeel. Nice.

Tap...I was hoping for something a little more balanced...but this was overly candy sweet without the bitterness to round it out. OK for the style but not for me.

A little on the thick side but as it is with bw. Good sweet currant tastes with a high alcohol. In line with expectations.

Pours copper with a quick off-white head and a typical American barley wine nose. Flavor is predictable but deep, with lots of sweet barley, sharp, bitter hops, some alcohol warmth, and just a touch of roastiness on the backside. Long, dry finish. Excellent example of the style.

Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Karl Strauss 26th Anniversary snifter glass
From: Barons Market in Alpine, Calif.
Purchased: April 27, 2015
Consumed: April 27, 2015
Misc.: 2015 release
Poured an auburn, caramel, clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki, tan, rocky head. Good looking bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Average spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. Good retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 4.13)
First smell and I could tell it was a Lagunitas beer. Kind of how like I can always tell it’s a New Belgium or Sam Adams (that’s not a bad thing, just saying). Got sugary caramel, brown sugar, toffee, semi-boozy rye, Cascade and floral. Kind of reminded me of a Brown Shugga’ and Lagunitas Sucks. (Smell - 4.00)
Taste followed the nose with candied sugar, brown sugar, caramel, Citra, light earthy rye, floral, Citra, Cascade, light molasses, toffee and light grapefruit late. (Taste - 3.88)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, hoppy, warming finish. (Feel - 4.00)
This was a pretty good American Barleywine. I’d have it again for sure. (Overall - 4.00)

Bottle at DLD shared by Chudwick. Seemed really hoppy and sweet for a barley wine. Boozey. Solid, but doesn’t stay true to style, but great beer.
