Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. Huge malty character. Raisin, fruity alcohol, bready, sweet breads, burnt sugar. Very rich, big beer. Shows signs of oxidization but fully acceptable in this beer.

2011 bottle at home, pours hazy brown with reddish hues around the sides of the glass, medium off white head that fades to a thin film that sits the length of the glass. Aroma is lovely, big floral honey, boozy alcohol, caramel malts, maple. Flavor is big and malty with still some nice hops balancing things out, but still more malt forward with nuts and sweet caramel ending with only mild alcohol. Nice!

Bottle at the parentals. Pour is a murky copper color with an off-white head that quickly dissipated. Figs, caramel, brown sugar, dates, and toffee with light grass, although, very sweet and malt forward. Taste is big figs candi sugar, rich toffee, caramel and grapefruit; very sweet, almost on the verge of cloying, yet ending medium bitter. Creamy mouthfeel, though, with medium carbonation. Very sweet, with light hop characteristics and a bit too alcoholic. I was really expecting more of an American style barleywine, but this one was very sweet; a touch too young.

Sample at BrewPub

A - Cloudy dark orange to brown appearance.

S - Very sweet and lots of candi sugar. Almost like drinking flat cola

T - Pineapple and bananas. Its intensely sweet. Too fresh on tap. Some other fruits but hard to pick out.

M - Very heavy body. mellow carbonation.

O - on tap, its an odd beer. Very fresh barley-wine is not very appealing. Needs some time. Rating it for what it could be with age so giving it slightly higher marks.

Poured on draft into a Belgian style tulip. Pours a mahogany color with a ring of beige foam around the edge of the glass. Aroma was a rich woody, dark fruity, raisiny and nicely malty. Taste is a nice malty sweet. Well balanced. Finish is relatively dry. Pairs well with a hefty cigar.

Hazy light brown/red ale with thin layer of foam. Orange and caramel aroma with some hop spice. Good body and carbonation. Dried fruits, caramel and sweet toffee. Finishes sweet and sticky. Alcohol dries the rest out.

Classic American BW. Gooey caramel, apricot, pine, toffee. Full and sticky. Rich. Just missing a uniqueness that would truly set it apart. Lingering hoppy aftertaste.

Bottle. Love the hoppy barelywines and this one delivered. Ruby orange/amber appearance with a creamy tan head. Nose of sweet, lightly spicy, caramel, and a tad boozy. Taste was piney, medium hoppy, toffee, caramel malty, quite sweet, somewhat boozy but very smooth flavor. Smooth, mildly hoppy, sweet malty finish. Very nice.
