Very murky dark brownish red pour with a some amount of head. Very nice aroma of caramel malt mixed with grapes and dark fruit. Not getting much hop aroma. Taste is super sweet up fruit and then it turns a little fruity as it finishes fairly smooth leaving the sticky malt taste on your tongue. I would like this better if there was some more bitterness or hoppy taste to balance out malt. Still a pretty good barleywine though.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Thanks Dagan. Clear dark amber with a beautiful dark tan head. pleasant grape and wine aroma, nice, sweet taste. Thick and sticky, no carbonation, lingering finish.

May 2010: One of 24 taps at the Greenroom in Flagstaff, labelled as Gnary wine (12%abv) and no Olde mentioned that I remember. Hope this is the correct beer!
The beer came a deep amber/mahogany brown with a thin off-white head trying to sit on top.
The aroma was malty, sweetish, with caramel and molasses being the sweet smells I got. There were also hints of mild citrus notes, oranges mostly.
The flavours and taste followed the smells, richer and with an alcohol feel coming through, but sweet rather than dry or bitter. Any hop input must have come across as the citrus hints because the brew showed no other signs of a hop presence that I could find.
Certainly different and a good night cap on which to end my 2nd ’allocated drinking day’ on my US road trip.

Pours ruby with a decent head, good lacing. Smell is faint fruity, cherry, peaches. Taste is floral and hoppy, peaches again. Good texture and drinkability. Thin bodied but pretty decent.

Bottle at Beer Bistro. Hazy ruby pour. Very complex aroma: candy sugar, malt, raisins, and citrusy hops. Very sweet taste with raisins, brown sugar, and toasted marshmallow. Alcohol present in the finish, with a hint of bitterness. Tasty Barley Wine.

Aroma is candy and raisins. Has a bit of the grapefruit aroma that Lil’ Sumpin’ Supmin’ has. Nice red-brown color with a bit of clingy head. Taste is very big, sweet and buttery caramel with a bitter backing. Goes down extremely smooth. Nice full palate. Very tasty. Bottle from Beer Bistro.

Strong, boozey malt aroma. Deep red-amber in color with an off-white head. Syrupy malty sweet and strong. Really a solid barley wine!

Pours a rich mohagony with nice red hues, the khaki head recedes pretty quickly but the sticky brew leaves a nice lacing down the glass.
Wow, big aroma. Lots of dark and tropical fruit, booze, tons of carmolized sugar like roasted marshmallows.
First sip I taste alot of sweet fruit, pineapple, raisin, and bit of white grape tartness. There is a nice malty presence and undertones of hops, with a boozie finish.
Mouth feel is very nice, silky smooth, the sweetness lingers, and the alcohol leaves a nice warming sensation that fills the mouth and throat.

2007 vintage. Draft @ Brouwer’s Cafe. Rich fruit aroma: figs, prunes & a high alcohol hit. Deep ruby, clear as can be. Big, rude bubbly foam (like frogs’ eggs). Little lacing. Sugary, mild, ripe -- or maybe fermented -- prunes. Verrry sweet. Smooth, medium body. Slightly sweet aftertaste. Pleasant and rich, hops mostly gone. This has held up well. Maybe it’ll be good after another five years.

Sample at the Brew Kettle on 3/9/12. Clear reddish copper pour with a thick tan head. Nose of grainy and caramel malt with some earthy hops. Caramel malt and light berry flavor with an earthy hop finish.
