3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at the repub. Pour is a fairly dark copper, with a ring of head that leaves surprisingly nice lacing. Aroma is very malt forward, lots of caramel, light vanilla, lots of dark fruit (raisins and the like). Taste is MUCH more hoppy than the aroma lets on...starts with the same malt profile, but builds to a very nice pine bitterness that lasts, and lasts, backed by some nice cherry wood notes as well. Slightly sweet, though fairly bitter, finish. Overall, a nice beer, I just wish the aroma pulled through a bit more.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A- Pours a clear amber hue with a massive, 3 finger off white head that leaves tons of lacing on the way down.
S- Caramel, brown sugar, piney hops.
T- Taste is bready, hints of caramel, pine prickles the tongue about halfway through as it slowly takes hold and smashes your palate along with the alcohol.
M- Thick with low carbonation.
D- This is a tasty beer but one that should probably be laid down for a least a year. The alcohol and hops are very strong right now.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
650 mL bottle. 2009 vintage. Says 11%. Lovely, strong, coppery colour with a small, short-lived head. Smells exactly like a barleywine should, with toasted brown sugar and booze at the forefront. You get the sense that this one will be big, and it doesnít disappoint. My only real complaint is that itís a little too boozy - everything else gets pushed down a little. Good stuff, though.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
2001 vintage courtesy of the cheese man. This has really stood the test of time. Distinct woody tobacco aroma. Flavor is like a chewy pipe tobacco followed by dark fruit. Not a hint of cardboard or any off flavors very well done

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: Pours a cherry red with single finger light caramel which dissipates quickly. No lacing. Vibrant color.
S: Malty, caramel malts, sharp alcohol tones. Sweet nose. Wish there was a hare more hop on this; the hops are simply piny/resiny and weak for an American BW.
T: Sweet. Very sweet for an ABW. Little to no bitterness from hops. Although I like it very much, I donít think it fits the profile for the style.
M: Medium with low carbonation. No resonance.
D: Exceedingly drinkable: could do this all night. I think with a year or two on it, the beer could shine, but itís a gamble.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not as good as the Brown Shugga, but still a pretty great barleywine. Rich and slick on the tongue, tons of caramel and brown sugar.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draught at roscoes 2011 - pours cloudy amber with medium brick off white head. Nose of malt, caramel, and grass. Definite aged taste with caramel and malt accents. Not a fan of aged barley wine however not bad.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
2008, 9.7%. Pours hazy mahogany with floating sediment and minimal tan head. Aroma of toffee and caramel mingling with a bit of pine, hint of tobacco. Similar in flavor: sweet candy toffee offset by mild hop bitterness and a little booze burn. Low carbonation is the only significant drawback here.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A - Nice amber mahogany body with a light khaki head. Small strings of lace.
S - Toasted crackery toffee malt, apples, nuts, beef jerky cure, sugary cherries, grapes, hints of chocolate, bits of smokiness
T - Candied orange peel, enveloped in thick slab of sugary cherry malt. Very toasted and nutty flavors going on. Caramel covered fruit comes out - cherries, grapes, apricots, cider apples. Hops bleed in to battle the dense vehement malts.... but there is only one victor. The impenetrable malt holds strong and the vaillant hops break the barrier just enough to bring a sense of balance to the iron fisted malts.
M - Viscous, thick, full, syrupy at times, low carbonation.
This is a big power slap in your fresh-shaven face! (In a good way) Fits perfectly in itís style and itís not afraid of...anything. Itís bold and strong and just enough hops to keep this in the American category.
This is no surprise to an awesome brewery who is capable of breaking dimensions and curing diseases with there beers.
