In The beginning, there were ales. As far as anyone knows, the first beers made were ’top-fermented’, which is longhand for ’Ale’. Sometime long before the 1860’s, beers became popular that were made in Northern Europe with a bottom fermenting yeast strain that liked the colder temperatures. Because they had to spend weeks aging before they tasted their best, they were known as ’Lager’ beer. Lager is the German word for ’storage’. Since they had to sit a while, they took up more time and space and as such were harder and more expensive to make. Where ales are meaty, lagers are sinewy. Where ales are street, lagers are ’haute couture’. Where an ale might hit you over the head and take your wallet, lagers donate to charity and adopt stray cats. While an ale might steal your car or try to date your daughter and keep her out all night for who-knows-what purpose, a well bred lager would offer to clean your house while you’re on vacation and leave fresh scones and coffee for you when you return. Now, don’t get us wrong, ales can be a lot of fun to hang out with when you’re in the right mood, and if you have bail money on you. But what’s wrong with livin’ uptown from time to time, on a nice street, where the doormen all wear those little uniforms, the air smells of flowers, and lagers rule the Earth. Cheers!

Got at Krogers on Broadway. Golden. Medium beige head. Aroma: Light malts. Flavor: Piney hops, dry, some sweet malts at finish. It’s a Czech hybrid, a bit like Sam Adams Noble Pilsner with an attitude.

Bottle at Arnies in Akron. Poured into a pint shaker. Pours a golden clear with small head. Cereal, fresh cut grass and hay, and slight dankness. The taste is similar with grass, hay, and cereal grains. Light body, crisp. Not a bad Czech.

12 oz bottle into a pilsner glass Best by 12/29/2015 A: Ice cold gentle pour gives 1/2" of white bubbly head. Clear and pale gold with very large hence fast rising bubbles.Good retention and very nice lacing initially and as drunk. S: MiId grass and dried hay aroma with sweet baked bread behind. Nothing elaborate or that need be. T: Crisp flavors of lightly toasted white bread joined with faint herbal hop bitterness. The hops soon turn tart and faintly lemony. Nice, subtle and pretty well balanced. I do not get any alcohol at least as yet. Tartness perhaps turning a bit sour over time. M: Light for the strength and crisp on the palate with a good level of carbonation. Finishes medium length and somewhat wet. O: I expected good things from this and cannot say I’m disappointed except that I can’t get this in my hometown. Also slightly stronger than I prefer as I admit to becoming quite a lightweight in recent years. Nice beer overall and one i do recommend as a lover of pilsners.

Clear lemon with little head. Minimal carbonation. Has that dry herby flavor typical of pils. Hops soapy and lingering. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I like pilseners - I practically grew up on them. This beer is almost as good as they get - give it a try, you'll enjoy it! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Vivid gold. Halo and some dollops of white head. Creamy, mildly spiced malts. Some toffee. Hint of grassy hop. Taste has a mild sweetness first off, turning spicy dry. Bit of a flabby mouthfeel. A bit sickly sweet toward the end. I didn’t get on too well with this. I maybe would have liked it more at it’s previous 5.3%. Great commercial description though.

I’m not an expert. For me it is nice beer that I can enjoy. I fill something like herbs. It may be a little bit woody.

Lagunitas PILS has a very thick, white head, heavy lacing left behind, and a mostly clear, gold appearance, with powdery sediment, throughout, and a few lazy, ascending bubbles. Aroma is of yeasty biscuit, and the flavor is of those two elements, riding alongside fairly bitter, grassy hops. Mouthfeel is medium, and Lagunitas PILS finishes crisp and refreshing. RJT

Pours a light clear yellow color with a corn aroma. Taste is bready, malty, and good corn malt flavor. A decent beer for the style, with your typical bitterness bite of aftertaste you get from European style beers.
