PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA Jul 10, 2008 Really neat orange rind/orange juice hop aromas. Light pine beyond that. This is just a really pleasing hop aroma. Flavors are more piney with a nice clean sweet malt. Balanced, but fresh hops are def featured. Amber color, modest head. dkachur (2318), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jul 10, 2008 12 oz. bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Copper colored pour with a medium head that leaves little specks of lacing. Subtle sweet grain aroma with a hint of hops. Taste is citrus, caramel, hops. Odd taste to me. Not off, just odd. robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jul 9, 2008 pours a clear orange-yellow with a smell off white head, good lacing.
smell of hops, caramel, some malt.
taste is creamy, orange rind, hops, pink grapefruit, touch of caramel. daknole (2810), Plantation, Florida, USA Jul 9, 2008 Pours a light amberish color totally clear with a medium whitish head. Aromas remind me of a pale ale or ipa. Flavor is malty and sweet with a very good hop backbone. reminds me of an IIPA in flavor. I like this one and think it is a tad underrated. timfoolery (482), California, USA Jul 8, 2008 Love Lagunitas, but this one wasn’t my cup of beer. It tasted like a fully confused lager. There was some creaminess there, but the palate just wasn’t right. fattibobatti (246), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jul 7, 2008 bottle from market square liquor tallahassee. light copper pour, thick white head. powerful orange, citrus and floral hops. taste is orange bitter hops with a sweet caramel like malt background. alcohol warmth in the finish. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Jul 6, 2008 6pack from Case and Keg in Boca. Slightly hazy pour with a fluffy headand moderate lace. Sweet up front with bitter finish. Subtle hints of hops and lemongrass Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Jul 6, 2008 THOUGHTS: Wow! Another American Strong Ale from Lagunitas. One day maybe they will try something different. This made me realize I should only be drinking wheat beers for the rest of the summer. This one got me sweating. Nothing special, but still a nice beer.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium amber with a small, fizzy, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was extremely sweet. There was caramel malt, light hops and a little brown sugar. The initial flavor was moderately sweet, and lightly acidic and bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet and bitter, and lightly acidic with and average to long duration. There was caramel malt and then some hops with a hint of citrus. The medium body was sort syrupy, but then dry with soft carbonation and a sort of metallic finish.
