General66 (167), Streator, Illinois, USA Mar 19, 2008 12 ounce bottle. Poured a dark yellow color with a 2.5 finger width tan head. The aroma consisted of a lot of caramel and malts with a hint of hops in the background. Tasted a lot of caramel in the beer... that is probably due to a lot of malt. It left a nice bitter taste in my mouth. As the beer warmed, I could taste more hops. Overall a tasty beer... nothing that I would drink regularly though. shp555 (1678), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Mar 18, 2008 Pours a pours a light copper color with a white head. Has a long bitter finish. Illini08 (528), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Mar 10, 2008 Bottle from General66. Thank you, sir. Dark yellow pour. Light aroma of caramel malt and just a hint of hops. Flavor is dominated by malt, but its still fairly easy drinking. A decent dose of hops in the finish. Good, but nothing that I would seek out again. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 9, 2008 Dark yellow,a few streaming bubbles, not much of a white head, rather still. Aroma is interesting - I get pear, light malts, alcohol, floral hops. Taste - wow, was not expecting that amount of hops - really bitter upfront. Eases off into a pleasant malt body, almost honey sweet, and that is where any sort of creamy fuller body comes in. Lingers with a few more grapefruit like hops and a little water. Good stuff. If this is what Spring is about, I’m all for it, but it is getting harder not to laugh at all the promises of Spring on these beers while I’m staring at mountains of snow banks... Bier brauen (210), Bremerton, Washington, USA Mar 5, 2008 First off, its the perfect color. Lighter than the damp, dark days of winter, but not the brilliant brightness of spring and summer. For a nose, it’s strong, rich malty goodness. Taste wise, it’s like a fresh unwrapped caramel, squeezed between the tongue and the roof of the mouth. Mouthfeel is like comparing whole milk to nonfat. And the finish is a subdued bitterness, cleansing the palette for the next taste. Good stuff! blklab2007 (938), Connecticut, USA Mar 2, 2008 bottle labeled special release poured in a trappist glass has a caramel amber color with some unfiltered sediment and a thick initial head of white froth. aroma has caramel malt, sweet peach, lemon peel, light alcohol, and pine hops. mouth feel is light and coating with appropriate carbination present. flavors are malty based with lemon rind, sappy pine hops, and caramel. decent dose of sweetness and well rounded flavors. finishes with light biter hops and malted caramel. smooth and well combined and does have a well integrated creamy body and texture. a nice ale that is a little different giving it some uniqueness.
