Ceebs25 (217), Naperville, Illinois, USA Nov 5, 2009 22 oz bomber. Really not too potent on the hops in the aroma for a dipa. Though on the lighter side, the aroma is still well balanced and pleasant. A lot of fruity and herbal notes here, with melons, a sugary/tart citrus, some general mild fruit, light caramel and biscuits. The pour had some nice frothy head, very sticky lacing, some light particulate in the medium thick body, and a straight orange-red color. With a medium-full body, there’s not as much pop as you might expect, though it does have a nice creamy feel that finishes with a smooth bitter hop. If there’s one downside to this beer is that it doesn’t have a ton of complexities in the flavor. This isn’t really such bad thing though as the semi-sweet hop tropical citrus fruits and caramel cookie malts go together very well with a very nice balance that makes for easy drinking. This was quite a nice selection from a Lagunitas and perhaps the most sessionable dipa I’ve ever had. watson1977 (242), , Pennsylvania, USA Nov 5, 2009 pours a very clear golden honey color with a foamy white head...lively looking with nice retention. aroma is grapfruit, spicy hops...herbs of some sort and more grapefruit with subtle malt backing. flavor has loads of resiny hops...lots of grapefruitiness! again just a touch of malt backing. mouthfeel is oily and lively on the tongue with a dry hoppy citrus finish. awesome beer! piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Nov 4, 2009 Bottled sample. Pale copper in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of orange, flowers, pepper like herbs, and a bit of hard caramel. Less focused citrus is upfront in the mouth, along with a bit of metal, pale malts, and some earth. Leafy bitterness, and medium bodied. Somewhat similar to Stone Ruination, although not quite as well executed. That being said, it’s still a pretty darn good IIPA... not to mention one that you really can’t beat for the price. Rynoplasty (499), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Nov 3, 2009 Pours golden orange with a nice frothy white head. Aroma is a nice citrusy, resiny pine and floral blend. Flavor is big fruity bitter hops, with lots of florals and tropical and citrus fruit coming through along with a big bitter finish. Really good. oteyj (710), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Nov 3, 2009 Thanks Cliff. Aroma is clear amber with copious rising bubbles and a two finger froth. Aroma is resinous, with loads spruce, evergreen, and further notes of citrus. Flavor is very sweet- caramel and light sugars with bitter grapefruit, orange, and pine. Smackingly resinous. Sweetness is syrup like, though it seems like something is missing from the hop character- I guess theres no substitute for whole hops. Though the hop extract may take away a little from the complexities of the flavor, the bitterness is bracing, and masterful- a double edged sword I suppose. Palate is medium with pillowy effervescence and a coating bitter finish. Great and unique example of the style. savnac (391), Palmer, Alaska, USA Nov 1, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy golden orange with an off white sticky head that leaves a ring of lace. Aroma is strong grapefruit/citrus and pine with hints of sugary caramel, hay and alcohol. The flavor is a good balance of sweet malt and bitter hops, not much alcohol taste. Medium body with an active carbonation to lighten up the sweet syrupy mouth feel. This is a nice IIPA, a purist could criticize at the use of hop extract but they pulled it off. zvikar (412), Tel-Aviv, Israel Nov 1, 2009 @ a tasting, pours bronze clear with a nice white head, aroma of pine, grapefruit, mandarine and vanilla, bitter flavor with some herbs, hay, malt and vanilla, nice complexity, medium bodied, balanced and pleasing. RedSox2004 (352), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Oct 31, 2009 On tap at Daily Pint in Santa Monica. Pours a dark golden color with a billowy two-finger head and a ton of tiny little bubbles coming up from the bottom. The head leaves a nice bit of lacing on the side of the glass. Strong aromas of citrus hops with subtle hops in the background. Piney/citrusy hops dominate the palate with little support from the malt. Nice smooth medium body, carbonation almost seems hidden in the smoothness of the beer. Not too much bite either. Hops are strong in the aftertaste.
