Aromas of hops, grass and spruce. Flavors of citrus, particularly grapefruit, and leather. It’s medium bodied and slick on the tongue. I enjoyed this. It has just the right amount of bitterness. | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Feb 7, 2010 Bottle: Pours a vibrant orange color ale with large foamy head with great retention and excelent lacing. Serious aroma of floral hops with great citrus notes. Taste is also a very well balanced mix (considering the IBU level) between some floral hops with citrus and grapefruit with a good bitter finish. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no signs of alcohol. I was expecting a hop bomb - and it is that - but it is not an unbalanced one. Very drinkable and an excellent mix between slightly sweet malt with great hoppy presence while not just going for bitterness. Oddefellowe (130), Tampa, Florida, USA

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Feb 2, 2010 Bomber. Obviously prominent hop nose, the majority caramel with pine, some still-bright citrus. Some fun with the oils and a few fresh-bready notes. Clear, gradient golden-orange-amber body with consistent carbonation and a meringue, rocky, awesomely spoonable off-white head. Taste is very dry and strong in bitterness, but sort of tame in comparison to some other IPAs, no resin or harshness, never would have guessed 100+ IBU. Honey and very light hay, no hint of alcohol. Apricot, faint tangerine. Soft, smooth creamy notes and some residual malt sweetness, a little bit of a wild tang and some non-standard pale ale yeast notes (i.e., the yeast here is actually imparting character other than ‘clean’). Mouthfeel is just super velvety, medium-full body. Aftertaste leads to not only the hop burp, but the lingering honey-filled Orvallish note. A great drinking experience (Belgian feel brings this into higher strata), and a very pleasant surprise! And for this price, a beer everyone should try. My rating seems a little higher than the others here, which is surprising to me – this really blew the doors off the barn. Wow, wow, wow! Davros (300), Australia
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 2, 2010 Pours orangey amber with a large, persistent head leaving rings of lacing.
Nose shows lots of grapefruit, green apples, lemon, orange and resinous hops. Beneath this is faint clean malt and brown sugar.
Grapefruit and resin transfer well as flavours, along with the clean malt. Some toasty notes show through, before a massive, clean and sharp bitterness rampages through. Very powerful, but exceptionally well balanced.
Body is quite rich, with moderate carbonation that could have been amped up a little. joeyplush (346), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 30, 2010 Cloudy orangeish color with a whitish medium head. Aroma is extremely perfumey and floral. Flavor is not as hoppy as I expected but it is rich - smooth malt to start followed by a nice bite of citrus hops. Very complex palate - citrus, followed by sweet malt and then lingering hops, A bit of chest warming alcohol in the finish. Very enjoyable beer. obguthr (1137), Poquoson, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jan 28, 2010 Rich toffee nose with dates and honeycomb. Cloudy golden, fine floaties, thin yellow head. Perfumey rose potpourri flavor. Alcohol evident. Full bodied, well carbonated. Perfumed finish. Bleh. If you have ever gone from drinking Coors Light, without ever having tried a craft beer, directly to something like DFH 120, I imagine it tasted like this tasted to me at 1000+ ratings. There is some nice hop flavor in there, but it tastes like my neighbor’s grandmother. I’ve said too much. TLNash886 (151), Idaho, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 27, 2010 Bomber pours dark amber with a good spot of off white head into a tulip. Crisp hop aroma with a solid floral presence; lemon and pine as well. Quite bitter at the beginning but it doesn’t last long. Plenty of hops with a balancing malt presence. Finishes with honey, pine, herbs, lemon, and a tea-like flavor. Frothy on the palate with medium body and carbonation level. Crisp and tasty with well balanced flavors, but it doesn’t have the extra sweetness and depth I’ve come to love in other DIPAs.
