hahah! 102 IBU? Killer. How can one go wrong with that? Poured out a very nice apricotty gold crystal clear brew. If you look closely you can see tiny molecules shaped like hop buds... or is that my imagination? Perfectly sized off white / light tan head, thick and slowly receding. Another swirl creates a deep cap and hop happy bubbles dance in my glass. Splotchy lacing. My nose is being pampered with the swirling aromas of thick aprioranectareaches, grapefruits, pine, sweet subdued caramel, floral notes and pineapples. I just poured the rest of the first bottle into my glass and then ate 2 mouthfulls of beer foam. Now, when is the last time you ate beer foam? And was it good? Of course it wasnít. Well then, you need to eat this foam - intentionally. It truly was excellent. I actually ate it so I could get closer to the liquid hidden far beneath. The taste is truly excellent. A sweet fruity elixir greeted my with a friendly hello and then began to implode my insides with a non-lethal hop injection. The massive hops are so well done here - keeping very fruity masking what could have been a stomach full of leafy, characterless hops. Thick, heavy citrus (no lemon) that includes the now famous aprioranectareaches, mild unsweetend grapefruit, a stiff but secondary pine bite, smooth malts keep this savage in check, pineapple again, the pine leans towards juniper if you know what I mean. Sooo drinkable and, hey, no notice of the 7.7% what so ever. Yea, lots of thick flavours are there when warmer but I preferred this a bit colder - it kept away the syrupy quality better. Light medium bodied, leans towards a thick mouth coating. The malts remain as the soft, gentle undercarridge that allow the drool initiating hop flavours to stay afloat without getting to unruly. Tons of bitterness, obviously, so much beyond the ability of your body to recognize. Excellent, excellent beer. I enjoyed this so much. I love hops, dammit. Iíd marry them if I could but I think the wedding night in the room would be a tad disappointing....

On tap at Russian River brewpub during the 2009 RBSG visit there. This was a dark gold pour, nice amount of citrus and hoppiness with some balance.

Pours a clear golden color with a foamy haed. Aroma is citrussy and hoppy. Tastes very much like the Pliny the Elder (which I like the best). Nice balanced citrus and hops with a warm dry alcohol finish. Yummy.

UPDATED: JUL 16, 2009 500 mL. Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with a two finger, rocky, tan head that leaves some impressive lacing. Aroma is beautiful floral hops, powerful citrus hops, grapefruit, strong spicy alcohol. Taste is heavy on the Chinook and Amarillo (?) hops up front that moves towards a powerful alcoholic presence. Long, acidic, dry, bitter finish. This is such a drinkable double IPA- if it had been presented to me as a pale ale or IPA I would not question it all until that massive alcoholic presence in the finish.

(22oz bottle) Pours a rusty orange with a nice 1 finger head. Great retention and big bubbles resting on top. Nose is oat, grass, grapefruit and piney hops. The flavor is grapefruit and pine hop combination but absolutely no bitter linger. Slight caramel here, but the malt backbone interrupts any chance this 100+ IBU beer has to linger on your palette. This beer may have the best oily mouthfeel Iíve ever had. Superbly balanced.

Excellent lace from the dense head. Relatively clear, with a beautiful golden color. Great Floral smell--lots of grapefruit to the nose. Short beginning to the malt, soon to default to the strong, strong hop bite. Interestingly, the aftertaste is very short. Good body with a slightly high carbonation. Way too easy to drink, considering the ABV.

Clear golden amber pour with nice but fading head. Obvious poty hop aromas, flowers and pine, but also a sugary caramel aspect. Easy drinking for sure, and has a potent bittering hop kick which yields a syrupy warming touch. Tooth coating. A quality brew, however, I liked it more when it was slightly chilled as opposed to letting it warm up a bit, I felt it helped the mouthfeel. Good overall

22Oz bottle pours a hazy golden orange with a nice full off-white head. Lots of sticky lacing. HUGE Grapefruit, pineaple aroma. Classic. Flavor cant quite keep up, but p[lenty bitter as the commercial escription indicates. Lots of fresh hop flavor to make it not just an IBU Bomb. Nice palatel blasting dry bitter smack up the side of the head at the end. I kind of wish the ABV was not quite so high, Iíd enjoy drinking more of it. Nice big DIPA.

The aroma from this pour is so much hops that it smells like pineapple, which I have never smelled before. Itís lovely! It pours a light gold with lots of beading and a decent head on top. First taste is all hops and I canít seem to get a sweetness out of it. Iím not complaining though. This doesnít have the mouthfeel of other beers of this style, a bit thin and burning, but still nice. Iím glad I bought 2 bombers of this!

Bomber: Aroma has got a nice grapefruit hop texture, somewhat grassy, and a light amount of candy mixed in. The appearance is a amber/golden color with a nice big fluffy white head that lingers around for quite a while. Taste is surprising, different flavor meld over your palate as the brew goes down into your gullet. Hops, the Lagunitas candy twang but this time it actually works well in the brew. Then some noticeable malts and some big juicy citrus fruits. Overall, I liked this a lot another good on from a brewery that I usually think make just above par beers. Cheers!
