aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA Jul 1, 2009 This really isn’t that bitter for a 100+ IBUs, but then it’s a little on the sticky side from the malt. There’s a good caramel malt to this a resinous hop aroma, but this really seems less aggressively hopped than the Stone Sublimely Self Righteous that I bought the same day. coyotehunter (542), , Michigan, USA Jul 1, 2009 Bomber. Pours a gin clear copper color with a big nose of pine and citrus. Lots of grapefruit flavor, followed by a ton of bitter. Medium carbonation with a thinnish palate, but still a pretty good beer. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 1, 2009 Clear copper orange with a thin but lasting off white cover. Nice pine, resin hop aroma, some caramel and toasted malts. Taste is more spicy hops, huge pine resin, a lingering bitterness, a touch of fruitiness either from the hops or the malt, sweet caramel and toffee base. mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 30, 2009 22 oz. bottle served in shaker- poured semi orange with brown and tan hues, zero to low carbonation. Non transparent, much like some people here. Aroma of hearty grapefruit, freshly cut alfafla, and pure magical beer goodness. Hits the mouth right in the jaw with a sweetened malt, the malt tries to tell you a story but the hops come in and take no prisoners, resin makes itself known in the middle, finish is pure hop bomb- to be expected from this brewery. Good stuff, for good people. umpquabrewer (3), Oregon, USA does not count Jun 30, 2009 Poured from 22oz bottle into a thistle style glass (my favorite) leaving plenty of room for the four inch head!
Appearance - The color is golden orange with a creamy off white head of tightly packed bubbles that recede somewhat quickly leaving perfect lacing.
Smell - The first hint is of pine and grapefruit followed by tangerine and malt.
Taste - Strong hops that linger, sharp and crisp. The aftertaste is bitter, and sweet like grass.
Mouthfeel - The mouthfeel is awesome. A lot like PTE although a little heaver.
Drinkability - Very drinkable! Like I said it’s a lot like PTE but more accessible. (I have to drive 80mi for the Pliny). I will most definitely buy it again... and again.
Great beer and at $3.99 at the local market how can I go wrong!? Good job Lagunitas!
tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 29, 2009 Bottle, thanks to Matt, at KW tasting (thanks Matt, I have been wanting to try this one!!!). Medium glowing yellow, small white head. Great hoppy aroma - piney heaven. Taste is a stunning balance of intense citrus hops and malt - wow, pulls off this balance at this IBU level really well. Nice dry hoppy linger in finish. I want more. Much more. highibus (421), Mill Creek, Washington, USA Jun 28, 2009 Pours a beautiful light carmel color. Thin white head dissapates quickly. Huge aroma of piney hops. Great palate, not overbearing but a real nice bit of resiny thickness. Sharp hop bite with some citrus. Clears quickly and just a light lingering os sweetness and hops. Good balance. frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Jun 27, 2009 Pours a golden/copper body with moderate carbonation under a full and long lasting off-white head which leaves a frothy lace on the glass. Sharp, piney hops with floral and herbal notes are so intense that even my wife said "whoa" despite her sinus-clogging allergies. Flavor is again sharply hopped with pine and grapefruit, and its bitter bite lingers so long that I could still taste the hop-burn on my tongue after I had a cigarette. An intense brew, quite excellent if you are looking as I was for a harsh, satisfying DIPA. ~~~~~~~~~~~ 22 oz. bomber from Kenwood Liquors, Oak Lawn, IL
