Copper body with off white head and good laceing left on pint glass. Some dry cirus vine resin in flavor along with some sugary citrus flavor. Cool and crisp on the palate little dry lingers afterward but good refreshment. GuilTTy (531), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 16, 2009 Bomber from Canals in Lawrenceville, NJ. Light chestnut pour under a medium dusky white head. Piney and citrusy aroma. Grapefruit punches you up front then the flavor mellows and balances with hearty malt. Mild vanilla and milk chocolate compliment the flavor. Silky mouthfeel with a bitter hook. A smartly crafted stoopid ale. xmarcnolanx (792), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 16, 2009 Aroma is dank orange hops, lots of residual sugar, a bit of fresh grapefruit rind, and malt.
Wow. Smells like a nice barleywine.
Apperance is golden mead with scant, quickly disappearing head.
Taste is initially all oranges, but slowly gives way to a pine bitterness and malt sweetness that is very well in-balance for the style.
Lots of backbone on this one, surprisingly. Perhaps underattenuated? There is a lot of gravity here, but a lower than expected alcohol level just going by taste and past experience.
Second taste brings more grapefruit rind into play with the sharp carbonation and crisp, sweet malt backbone.
Simple, but very, very nice.
Finish is not very cloying, and lingers decently well with the rind bitterness.
This is very, very nice. tekhna (102), California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 15, 2009 So I’m getting pretty tired of super-malty hop bombs, but for some reason this one just really sat well with me last night. It’s by no means a perfect beer, and I can understand the "it’s a syrupy mess" complaints, but for the price/quality ratio it’s hard to go wrong. I’m not sure I’d pick this over Pliny, but luckily I haven’t moved to CA yet, so I don’t have to make that decision.
I think Hop Stoopid and Old Rasputin can be kin in the "solid and reasonably-priced beer that hasn’t been hyped to death" category. vinerd (17), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 14, 2009 Pours a nice brownish orange with a fluffy white head. Aroma is citrusy hops, pine and malt. Flavor is caramel, pine, fresh citrusy oily resinous hops, grapefruit. Has a nice oily mouthfeel and finishes a bit astringent and bitter with some lingering sweetness and citrus to counteract the bitteress just enough to work well. beergod (100), Austin, Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 14, 2009 The nose is beautiful! It’s made up of dry herbal, grapefruit, nice malt backbone. The pour is also nice. Pours a nice bright copper with a nice head that leaves good lacing. Flavors are nice and very balanced witch is great. Not just hop water, but more of a well balanced IPA. Flavors are that of a very floral, piney, bright citrus with a nice caramel malt balance. Great job! kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 13, 2009 22 oz bomber: Deep gold/light amber w/ a lasting, medium white head. Very pungeant hop aroma... Grassy, piney, resiny and raw... And a hint of grapefruit. Caramel and toasty hop figure into the mix as it warms. Go figure... A beer called Hop Stoopid with hops all over the place...! Very little fruitiness other than hops. Hop flavored, but slightly sweet balance. Grassy again, piney, woody, toasty malt, caramel (very light), and oddly enough, pineapple hops. Finish is semi sweet, resiny, lightly piney, and overall, nicely complex from hops. Medium to full bodied, medium CO2, smooth, but not creamy. Nice hop complexities between aroma and flavor! Typical west coast IPA... I wish I could get out there to try more in person on tap! joekinty (263), rockledge, Florida, USA
