punkrkr27 (608), Berkley, Michigan, USA May 7, 2009 Gold pour with a frothy, 1 finger, white head and good lacing. Loads of sweet, bright, citrus and bubblegum esters in the aroma with some resinous pine notes and toffee malt. More fresh wet hops in the flavor with lots of grapefruit and pine and a big caramel malt background. Sticky medium body with enough carbonation to wash down all those hop oils. Great stuff. Tastes just like fresh Hopslam. MrChopin (622), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 7, 2009 Transparent bronze, small foamy white head. Lots of grapefruit and fresh pine, like that first scent of the Christmas tree. The flavor is still quite bitter, but a lot of the fresh hop notes are drowned amid sugary malt and sweet fruit, minor grapefruit still hanging around. Moderate body but quite robust palate, moderate finish, bitter in orange and caramel. Some bright moments, but it fails in the same way that so many other IIPAs do. djd07 (724), Houston, Texas, USA May 7, 2009 Bottle as shown. Pours a copper golden with a small paperthin white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is a strong pine hops with grapefruit and floral notes. Good sticky lacing on the glass. Thin body with pine hops and veggies with a nice bitter finish. Not too overpowering in hops or bitterness, very smooth, a very impressive IIPA from Lagunitas. GreggG (19), Spokane, Washington, USA May 6, 2009 Bomber. Pours with a thin white head that rests on top of a clear amber body. The aroma is sharp grapefruit with a faint floral hint. Flavor is resinous pine, bitter grapefruit, and sweeter pineapple. The beer is more balanced than expected, it isn’t all about hop bitterness ("102 IBU 4 U"). A very solid beer. MrBunn (1523), Western, Pennsylvania, USA May 6, 2009 Bomber. Pours a transparent orange with lots of carbonation streams rising to the surface and a thin and dense head. Aromas are my very favorite mix of hops: citrus and pine. Flavor is a little off the mark, however. There is a really nice hops presence there, but it is a little underwhelming and there is just too much sweetness in the finish. I thought this was going to be transcendental given the nose... as is, it is just a very decent beer. dmschefke (371), Eastpointe, Michigan, USA May 5, 2009 Pours a slightly amber gold with thick white head. Aroma is wonderful of citrus hops, slightly floral, pine, and grass. Flavor is very pleasing, but no big surprise compared to aroma. Additional slight sweetness and caramel. Very solid DIPA and very happy that it is readily available and priced so well. krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA May 5, 2009 bomber. this ale displays an intense coppery orange color with a frothy and persistent off white head made of tiny little beads. the nose is loaded with citrus and tropical fruits like pineapple mango and grapefruit. very bright and aromatic. hmm... 100+ IBU’s? don’t get me wrong, its fresh, scrumptious, and full of hops, but not terribly bitter. the bottle says they used hop extract to make this. i’ve read extracts result in a less assertive hop profile. the flavor is there, the body is malty sweet and full, the palate is clean and the finish rebounds with a lovely resinous bite. but its not bitter enough. fine frothy lacing clings to the glass. this is a fine beer overall. bsierra (213), Vista, California, USA May 4, 2009 Bomber, Pours clear copper with tight off-white head. The aroma is quite hoppy--pineapple mostly, with orange, grapefruit, and some honeyish sweetness. The flavor has plenty of fruitiness, too, both from hops and fermentation. There are some more resinous hop notes and some hints of caramel after the initial fruity hops. Not as much straightforward bitterness as I had expected from "100+ IBUs" but there is a ton of juicy hop flavor. It finishes cleanly and leaves a dusty, hempy aftertaste. Yum.
