RSRIZZO (1345), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA May 3, 2009 Color is a deep gold with good carbonation and a nice tight white head. Aroma is a big fresh hop scent. Taste is hoppy and citric. Starting with a bold medium body it goes down with a rich feel. Finish is big with a bright hop taste, a touch of malt and a little bitterness. After taste is a citrus that ligers on the sides of your tongue. This is a well done Imp IPA, very well balanced. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 3, 2009 22oz bottle Poured into a tulip glass.
Amber/gold body that is perfectly translucent.
Tight small bubbles form a creamy head that is thick, sits long, and leaves impressive lacing.
Smell is of powerful piny hops. But not much else.
Taste up front is strong on the hops, dry,m and piny. Back end of it is sweet and not too hoppy. The hop resin is not as strong as the aroma would make you think.
Delicious, fairly balanced for a DIPA, and a great value. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 3, 2009 Just had this last night with high expectations. And why did this not meet them? I’m picturing a pretty big IPA with a stoopid amount of hoppiness to it, but that’s not really what I got. A nice beer yes, but I don’t know man, I just wasn’t feeling this on an imperial level. Poured a bright clean orange colour with a small sticky white head. Noticeable sticky lacing. While aroma is dank and hopped with notes of pyne- it doesn’t pull through on the flavour part. Juicey tree bark is what im tasting. I really wish this would have been as astringently hoppy as i was hoping for. TampaBrew (726), Tampa, Florida, USA May 3, 2009 Floral, citrus, pine tons of hops in the nose. Sticky malts, oily hop flavor. Hops are all over the place. Dang, beer has one dank aroma. Huge, leafy, lupuline awesomeness. Really impressive. Unfortunately, the aroma is the highlight. The flavor isn’t bad, but it’s a Lagunitas IIPA. At least it’s not burnt or too sugary, but there’s an overabundance of chewy malt here with some underlying vegetal character that simply doesn’t help matters. It’s got that IIPA stickiness despite only running 8% (how do Green Flash IPA and SN Celebration and Two Hearted get so close in ABV and yet avoid this curse entirely?). Now all of this sounds like I’m complaining, and I guess I am (whiny-ass bastard) --- but it’s really a pretty darn good IIPA. I’m really enjoying it, not the point that I’m going to be buying lots of it in the future, but it’s good stuff and Lagnunitas deserves the props they’ve been getting for this one.
moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA May 2, 2009 Bottle sent to me by Solan, I’m pretty sure...
This is a very good DIPA. The pour is a nice straw color with a huge frothy white head. Big piney hop nose with some floral and spice accents. The mouthfeel is nice, a bit sticky, and great carbonation for me. The taste is plenty of grassy hops with a hint of caramel malt in the background. Good balance and nice finish. NomDeBeer (397), Maryland, USA May 2, 2009 Aroma is spectacular - smells of pepper and fresh hop pellets. Taste is pine, grapefruit, and pehaps a touch of caramel for balance. Not as bitter as I expected, but the flavor is great. Smooth mouthfeel with moderate to low carbonation. Very drinkable, and enjoyable. lipscomb216 (78), USA May 2, 2009 Is that centennial hops in there? Well, whatever it is, it is a fantastic hop showcase in a beer. Piney, citrusy, and mellow malt flavor balance out this beer.
