talon1117 (615), Bellvue, Colorado, USA May 2, 2009 Pours a clear, orange color with an moderately full, pillowy, creamy, off-white head which settles to a small, pillowy layer in time and leaves some tight, drippy lace. Nose is full of white grapefruit, very resinous pine, almost sappy, a bit of white pepper, and hints of tropical fruit; very hoppy but one-dimensional. The flavor is similar but with a subtle malt presence of sweet, honeyed, toasted biscuits; hops bring a high bitterness and notes of white grapefruit, light mango, resinous pine, white pepper, and light bitter orange peel. Palate is medium, lively, watery, and sticky. Finishes fairly long with increasing bitterness and dryness and notes of lingering grapefruit, lots of resins, and white pepper. Certainly not lacking for high alpha hops and lots of them. For the bitterness and hop intensity, the beer is actually very drinkable. While I usually like more balance in my IIPA’s, but this was enjoyable. Lagunitas does great work. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA May 2, 2009 Bomber, shared with Alex. Pours clear gold-orange with a nice white head. Heavy lacing also present. Aroma is a pungent blend of fresh citrus, tart green apple, and fragrant soap. Palate is crisp, “light,” and prickly carbonation. Flavors start on a sharp and refreshing citrus, focusing on tangerine, fresh navel orange and grapefruit. This is definitely a hop-centric DIPA, which is nice. Finish has more citrus, but also with soapiness and an interesting herbal character. This is absolutely delicious, and unique for lagunitas. This tastes nothing like Maximus, in a good way. Though a too-lofty comparison, the only beer that I can compare this to is Pliny the Elder. But that does tell you something. BusBoy (20), , California, USA May 1, 2009 Poured a light copper. thin head that sank to lace on the surface. Overwhelmed by citrus and piney hops. Bright hop flavor. Bold and piney. Malt in the tale end and a lingering bitterness. Smooth. MeisterBrew (138), Cheyenne, Wyoming, USA May 1, 2009 Bottle. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Aroma of pine and a hint of citrusy fruit. Flavor is similar, beginning with a short lived citrusy sweetness moving on to a very strong pine flavor. Ending with a nice dying bitterness. Decent IIPA. Just not as good as I expected. Narnad (682), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA May 1, 2009 This version of the beer is listed at 8% OH. Pours an orange-golden color with a thick white, foamy head. Aroma is a really bitter pine aroma followed by a very nice citrus notes, mango fruit comes through as well. Flavor starts off very piney and then moving into an grapefruit citrus presence and finishes bitter with some sweet bready malt flavor. Density of the beer holds the flavors very well and the beer carries a slightly oily feel. Overall this is a pretty cheap beer but the flavor is worth much more. One fine beer to give a try if you see it. shablinky (10), Durham, North Carolina, USA May 1, 2009 I love Lagunitas beers and this is the best of theirs that I’ve had. One of the best value/taste balances you can find. Buy this if you can. MAP (1085), Lakewood, Ohio, USA May 1, 2009 Bomber purchased at Friendly Mini Mart in Lakewood. Really nice pine smell to this beer. Its like being in a nice floral garden with some fresh cut pine trees around. Flavor is much thinner, at first, but it follows through with an amazing mouthfeel. It is so smooth and velvety all around, yet has this amazing bitterness at the end. A real class act of an IIPA. Also, this bottle is listed as 8%. happy4hops (369), Bel Air, Maryland, USA May 1, 2009 Purchased @ Jim’s Bottleworks in Hickory,MD.Really nice IIPA or beer in general. Definitley reminiscent of 3 Floyd’s Gumball head a little in the aroma.Delicious Fresh hops in the aroma and flavor.Citrus heaven.Very smooth with hops blasting lightly like a quick firework that isn’t all that it you thought it should be, but is so damn enjoyable.Dry finish. Really great work esp considering the hop extract and all.Great price!
