Blaketj80 (78), Oklahoma, USA Apr 12, 2009 Pours clear orange with nice finger head. It smells wonderful. Floral and orangey, slightly sweet. Very good beer, with residual sweetness. Bitter on the back of the tongue, but this hits all over the place. Piney and orange with a great body. This is an excellent beer. jeff789 (360), Pennsylvania, USA Apr 12, 2009 Pours a clear golden amber, very aromatic, nice big bubbly head with decent retention, much clearer and paler than expected, much like blind pig in color... Huge C hop aroma, very citrusy, not much malt profile very aromatic, nice... Orange, pineapple and grapefruit quite distinctly in the taste, not very bitter, not sweet, remarkably balanced, very drinkable, a top notch example... a bit dry, not too bitter in the finish, nice medium mouthfeel, not watery, not heavy bodied... apshah99 (137), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 12, 2009 Clear copper pour with white head. Overwhelming aroma of grapefruit hops. Heady taste of resinous malt with pine, grapefruit, and bitter hoppy finish. Nice hugely hoppy beer. Ok on the palate. lamas (709), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA Apr 11, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Slightly different label than that in the picture. Mine says 7.7% ABV. A clear orange pour with a creamy light-tan head that leaves a little lacing. Pungent aroma packed with grapefruits, orange peels, and pine needles. Thin-bodied for the style. Enough sweet caramel upfront to keep from being too one-sided. Juicy oranges and bitter grapefruits follow. Dry finish with loads of spiciness nicely complemented by the slightly higher level of carbonation. No real complaints. sigma23 (217), , Maine, USA Apr 10, 2009 pours an amber/orange with a small head that goes away fast. aroma of tons of citrus, grapefruit, orange, pineapple. drinks with tons of grapefruit up front with orange and pineapple finishing it. finishes bittersweet with tons of citrus. no real lasting after taste. great ipa! 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 10, 2009 Updated: Apr 11, 2009Fresh 09 bottle. Rating 993, 7 to go. Pours a clear glowing rich amber with a medium sudsy frothy beige head that disappears quickly but leaves nice lacing 3.5. Really nice fresh hop aroma, grapefruit, great sweet rich maltiness with touches of honey and resin. Aroma really reminds me of last years dreadnaught... which is definitely a good thing. First taste is peachy, salty, lighter but rich caramel, followed by grapefruit and light honey 7.5. A nice double IPA. Finishes a touch green and earthy, pine needles, with lingering sweetness trying its best to cover up the bitterness. Really nice mouthful, medium bodied, larger but softer carbonation bubbles, not sticky at all but rather drinkable. trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 9, 2009 Pours pretty - crystal clear orange, with a smallish head that fades to the point that this looks like a bourbon. (Damn. Now I’m wishing it was bourbon.) Nose is intensely hoppy - tons of citrus and pine... almost powerful enough to be an air freshener (now there’s an idea). Full body, great clarity with gobloads of hops, and a somewhat syrupy sweetness to counter... like it had a bit of Samichlaus added instead of a large malt contingent. It works, though - and the more you drink of this one, the more you like it. Good work! arondee (176), Tucson, Arizona, USA Apr 9, 2009 Poured an amber red/Orange with a 1 inch white head. Smell is all hops with a bit of sweetness and pine. Smells a lot like a Christmas tree actually. Very well balanced between a hoppy bitterness and a malty sweet. I taste orange rind, pine needles, and a thick sweetness in the background. Even as the beer warms up the bitterness does not become overwhelming.Very good IPA.
