nightrider (370), encinitas, California, USA Mar 22, 2009 On tap at Toronado. Clear Golden hue with white head. Lemon, grapefruit in your niose. Medium body. Good up front bitter hoppiness. Not a heck of alot sweetnes or maltiness in this one. Very bitter finish. Good beer. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Mar 22, 2009 You almost miss the Belgian or Farmhouse character through the hops. At first taste it is just a Double IPA. Dark golden amber with a lasting head and lacing that extends from top to bottom of the glass. Strong, but not heavy. earthy hop flavour. Thick, but not syrupy, body. Not overly sweet. Hops are most noticeable at the middle to the finish. The aftertaste is where the light farmhouse funk rises past the hops making you delay the next sip. smith4498 (825), Miami, Florida, USA Mar 22, 2009 Pours clear orange color with white head. Aromas of grapefruit and tangerine. Similar fruity flavors with a sweet malt backbone. Nice hop bitterness. Thick and chewy mouthfeel. Very nice. zapprentice (309), East Setauket, New York, USA Mar 22, 2009 Updated: Jul 5, 2009On tap at Deep Ellum. really incredible aroma of fruits and hops, very nice. Taste of strong hops, not as much fruits as observed in the aroma. Really nice IPA crackedmachine (82), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 22, 2009 This version is 7.7% ABV, 102 IBU (although it doesn’t taste like 102 IBUs to me).
Pours a transparent, dark orange, with a very thin head. The aroma is insane. It smells like a freshly opened package of hops, but with an underlying sweetness. Following that, the taste is about as would be expected. Hops and more hops, although I don’t find it terribly bitter. More floral, piny and sweet grapefruit. This is a ridiculously good beer for hop lovers. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Mar 21, 2009 22oz bottle, 7.7%abv. Dark gold with a thick white head. Floral and citrus hop aroma. Grapefruit and light pine hop flavors with medium bitterness and medium-sweet pale malt flavors. Medium bodied, and on the light side for style. Frankly, not really nearly as hoppy or bitter as I has expecting, still a bit better that Maximus, but not a great improvement for a year-round IIPA. I’ll definitely have to pick up another bottle at 3.99 though. branspra (204), Arlington, Virginia, USA Mar 21, 2009 Bottle. Pours an amber color, very clear, with a medium white head. Aromas of grapefruit and spruce hops. Lively palate that starts smooth and ends sticky with a brutal bitter finish. Tastes of hops and more hops, which to me is heaven. Wonderful beer and actually drinks a lot less than the alcohol content. jzzbassman (838), New Albany, Mississippi, USA Mar 21, 2009 Bottle. Poured an orange-red with a slight tan head. Aroma is big, piney, and resinous. Very nice hop flavor bite with such a big malt profile that it actually is not harsh at all. Tongue coating finish. NICE.
