DATE TASTED: August 29, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Duvel snifter... OCCASION: drafting while draughting (reused pun, for draft number 2)--a big-bodied beer for a big boy draft!... APPEARANCE: beautiful soft orange with a steady, centered eruption of bubbles; thick, creamy head is staunch and off-white--yes, perfect... AROMA: the shock and awe of the IBUs is on display, with the majority of the scent of a pine cone slicing through an orange, mango and pineapple simultaneously into a hop bomb shish kebob; as advertised ...PALATE: creamy, stirring thickness with an immediate warmth that seers, then cradles the throat; balanced overall, with a reasonable aftertaste...TASTE: delicious citrus (plum and pineapple pervade) are unrelenting; the alcohol metes its energy out as the glass drains; the aftertaste of funky yeast is a little difficult to take pleasure in... not knowledgeable enough to construe the good news/bad news of the label’s CO2 hop extraction explanation, I defer to my senses and buy into its overt toasty malt/hop balance, mostly--not as much as Adrian Peterson being my #1 pick... OVERALL: this beer is BIG, blessed with a peripheral attractiveness and a substance that follows up reasonably on its initial promise...impossible to remove the hop from the teeth, like the Altoid of the beer world...worth the bomber and its relatively fair price tag...

From a bottle. Pours clear bright copper with a thick bubbly off white head and decent lacing. Tastes like nutty caramel, dry pine hops, grapefruit, earthy, doughy malt. Dry feel, light/medium body, and low carbonation. Smells like sweet nutty caramel, earthy malt, and grapefruit hops.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with thick, frothy off-white head. Aroma is caramel and cereal malts, floral and lightly spicy hops, light mango, faint pineapple, and faint toast. Flavor is heavy floral and grassy hops, toasted malts, faint caramel, and some light fruit esters; hop bitterness through the finish. Medium body and carbonation.

"the look was nice, and what is expected of the style...ich thick foam resting atop a golden orange body. Even the cap smelled of resinous hops. the aroma is quite appealing...good mix of hops here, some spice, pine, and citrus. mouthfeel hides the alcohol well and goes down smooth. flavor is good, grapefruit & pine resin, with a touch of spice and alcohol. Overall, a very good brew, especially for hopheads. Similar to Anderson Valleys, but better. Reminds one a little of the fresh aroma of a Lagunitas Imperial Red or IPA - hopefully this one isn’t plagued by consistency issues like those 2. "

Aroma: intense resin, flowers, some grass. Appearance: hazy gold, big, creamy, white head. Taste: medium sweet. Palate: intensifying bitters, massive flowers, overripe fruit, resin and grass. Overall: incredibly nice IPA, an explosion in aroma and palate. Bottle at the Freakin’ Frog, Las Vegas.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden Orange color, with fluffy white head that leaves beautiful lacing. Aroma is sticky hops, a bit of caramel. Taste is dry, citrus, resin, nice bite from the hops balanced with subtle malt. Overall, this was my first 100+ IBU beer the first time I had it and after enjoying this so much I became a hop-head. Still one of the best DIPAs you can buy.

Pours a cloudy deep amber with a frothy off white head with some hop resin in it. Aroma of resin, citrus hops, grapefruit, pine, kinda sappy and some sweet caramel malt aromas. Taste is an extremely well balance of citrus hops and pale malts. Caramel, pine, grapefruit, resin and a huge bitterness that?s never astringent and in well balance with the malt and as it starts a bit sweet it finishes about semi dry. Awesome double ipa!

Golden orange and clear. Thin white foam. Sweet malt can be detected between the citrus and floral hops. Strong bitterness is easily palatable with nice support from the malt. 8% alcohol is hidden well.
