UPDATED: DEC 6, 2013 This is one of my favorites. I am like most, unable to get Pliny the Elder on a regular basis. I have been able to taste PtE. This is a good sub. It does taste like Pte the only difference is the finish. Pte is smoother and more well balanced. With that being said, this is the next best thing. I love the taste, bitterness, this is one of the best IPA’s out there.

OMG, I love this beer! It is my favorite IPA. Very well balanced hops bitterness with a strong malt body. And the hop nose! Best when fresh. You can really discern a difference.

Appearance: pours with a large beige head, the beer is a very clear slightly darker golden color Aroma: bread, grass, pine, dank, smells good under the thick head, spicy Taste: citrus, bitter throughout, caramel malt is there but subtle, spicy warmth Palate: medium mouthfeel, average carbonation, bitter aftertaste Overall: I really like this, smells amazing and tastes delicious, I was expecting a bit more bitterness from the ibu rating but I'm not dissatisfied Overall, hides the abv well ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a pale light amber with lots of bubbles and a thick white foam head. Aroma is mostly floral hops and some citrus and caramel. Flavor is floral notes, citrus, and a big hop bite muted by the caramel malts. For as big as this is, it drinks almost crisp. Very refreshing and delicious.

Orange, clear. Medium body, light flavor, good acidity, moderate heat, avg length. Bitter, slightly sweet. Hoppy in a simplistic way, some caramel in background. Disappointing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 oz bottle served in a Highland Brewing pint glass. Pours a hazy orange-amber with a moderate size near white head. The head is rather sudsy, has good retention, and leaves plenty of sticky lacing. First encounter with this one (I think). I braced myself for an extreme and challenging beer that earned the title Hop Stoopid and lists an IBU of 102. The aroma promises plenty of hops, in a complex combination that produces citrus, apricot, floral, evergreen and herbal notes, with the citrus dominant. Hoppy but there’s nothing really foreboding about the delightful hoppy aroma. Seems as great as possible for style, and great regardless of beverage. Taste?: No question; there are plenty of hops here, but there’s also a significant contribution from some sweet toasted grains that cut the bitterness back a good bit. The result is still a strong and very hoppy beer, but not what I’d call challenging. Long lasting, and tasty aftertaste from the hops. The complex mix of hops adds interest to what can be a one-dimensional style. In addition, the malt is evident in the background. Approaches 4.5 M: The high IBU and 8% ABV contribute to a bit of harshness on the tongue, but considering these, the beer is relatively smooth. Medium carbonation. O: excellent example of DIPA style.
