ElGaucho56 (379), USA Sep 23, 2007 Holy cow now that’s an aroma. Pure tangerine, leafy hops, like sticking your nose in a fresh out of the fields hopback, gorgeous sunset orange color, some serious fresh hops on the tongue duking it out with a nice non-cloying sweetness. Exactly how a IIPA should be; rivals Dogfish 90 minute.
raphael (259), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 2, 2008 rich fruity smell, citrus approaching strawberry. clear body, minimal head (on tap at mickey finns), interesting balance among the mlat, hops and alcohol, hops coming n third. had two pints and could have gone for a third but i wanted to drive home. eaglefan538 (2048), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Aug 30, 2008 On draft at the Clark Street Ale House, Chicago. The pour was amber-red colored, good IPA-like head, ok retention and lacing. The aroma was piney and citrusey hops. The flavor followed suit, but the caramel and pineapples were a bit too distracting. The finish included an astringency, where Lagunitas is capable of doing better than this. Not bad, nothing great though within the style, could have been much bigger in hopping it stoopid! tronraner (1410), (Louis-, Sevier-, Knox-)ville, Tennessee, USA Aug 30, 2008 Bomber, shared by NachlamSie with me and muenster. Pours clear copper with tight off-white head. The aroma is quite hoppy--pineapple mostly, with orange, grapefruit, and some honeyish sweetness. The flavor has plenty of fruitiness, too, both from hops and fermentation. There are some more resinous hop notes and some hints of caramel after the initial fruity hops. Not as much straightforward bitterness as I had expected from "100+ IBUs" but there is a ton of juicy hop flavor. It finishes cleanly and leaves a dusty, hempy aftertaste. Yum. muenster (333), Sevierville, Tennessee, USA Aug 28, 2008 Bottle, shared by NachlamSie. Pours copper/orange like a 3 year old penny. Very small beige head on this pour. Aroma is very citrusy, with lots of grapefruit and grass. Flavor is very fruity as well. Much more juicy than bitter. The mouthfeel is medium, a bit on the thinner side, only slightly sticky, but it fits well. Finishes quick, and so does the glass. NachlamSie (1353), Tennessee, USA Aug 28, 2008 Bomber thanks to TheBeerCellar split with Tronraner and Muenster. Pours bright orange with a decent head. Yeah, there’s that hop stank I was craving. It’s in my face and bright with a blast of grapefruit, pine, oranges, and Mary Jane. The mouthfeel is slightly sticky. I could use more hops in the flavor, but the juicy delivery works pretty well. Pineapple and orange hit the palate with a drying, grassy finish. The sweetness is fruity and rereshing with suggestions of melons and flowers. This is such a smooth, slick IIPA. Very accessible for the style and I really enjoy it. My only desire would be to have more aggressive hop quality in the way of flavor, though it is nice to mellow out with this one for a change.
