AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

It has beautiful color and a big, creamy head... Aroma is intensely hoppy; I find it to be dominated by floral/spiciness, herbs, some faint bread, very earthy. Taste is less bitter than other IPAs but extremely flavorful, balanced sweetness with a dry finish that always makes it hard to appreciate the beer at higher temperatures.

Pours a crystal clear orange with a golden tint. Fresh examples show strong, dank hops. Bright, juicy citrus hop flavors lead to some resinous notes on the back of the palate. Crisp, dry & refreshing. Very easy to drink. Hoppy bitterness lingers on the palate & it is nearly impossible to stop reaching for the glass. A benchmark IPA.

Clear golden pour with a nice white head and nice white lacing. Hoppy citrus and slight pine nose. Very hop aggressive taste without much bitterness.

How have I not had this before!?! By far the best Lagunitas beer I’ve had and one of my new top 5 IPAs I’ve had so far. Heavy on the citrus and tropical fruit notes which I love in an easy drinking IPA. Can’t wait until next year’s release!

Drank from a tulip, pour a clear copper color and had a slight wheat and hoppy nose, the tast is excellent it starts out with a simple hop forward taste, then goes has a wheat/oat body and finishes with a clean hoppy aftertaste. that lingers. overall at 7.8% its insanely drinkable and enjoyable

Pretty good beer. I was a bit let down. Wish it had a hoppier taste. Thanks Kevy. Maybe their best beer.

Pours clear gold/orange with a thick white head. Aroma is citrus, a little pine and straw. Taste is... well, think a little sumpin sumpin but a bit stronger, with more malt, a bit sweeter.

Other than being a very clear golden brew it smells and tastes like grapefruit juice. It has that sweetness that is followed by the acidic bitterness, just about like drinking grapefruit juice. So while yes that is the initial reaction after a few drinks there is more to it but it is not a major contribution to the overall taste. Luckily I like grapefruit juice so it’s a pretty good brew in my book.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2014 Always been a bigger want from me especially from this brewery. Pours a really nice golden color. Looks better than the average IPA and more distinct. Huge pine aroma. Big hoppy pine taste upfront. Taste blends into a citrusy grapefruit and orange based flavor that is really spot on. Hop feel lingers on the tongue. EXTREMELY drinkable. Really good stuff.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Dogfish Head pint glass. The color is a clear orange/gold with a finger or so of foamy white head and some thick lacing left on the glass. The smell is hops with a backup of sweet malt aroma that sits towards the back but can not be ignored. There is a candy-like aroma there that has a touch of grape Fundip. The taste is less hoppy then expected, the malt is there first with some sweetness to start things off before going quickly into some flavorful fruity hop bitterness. This beer may have some age on it so it’s a little drawn back from what I remember from having a fresh one in the past. This still holds up and in some ways is more flavorful with the bitterness in the back seat and more of fruit flavor is detectable without being over shadowed. The feel of this beer is medium bodied and is a better drinker then anticipated. It’s smooth going down and does not give as much punch to the pallet.
