AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

12oz into a tulip. Pours an orange marmelade light mixture with nice lacing and a faint bubbly head, 2cm. Aroma is sweet, hoppy, bursting with hop freshenss, is this not an ipa? Smells like one. Very sweet and resin like flowing to the nose, Orange, aprioct, mango, peach jam as well. Taste is sweet hops, just picked, orange, mango, bannana, peach, hops again, and sugar. Drinkability is wonderful, not too sweet and the hop fresheness prevails over it all, this is a nice ipa. Another stellar brew form Lagunitas.

Oh yeah this hits the IPA spot. Had it on tap at Jerry’s Sandwich Shop in Wicker Park Chicago. Pours a rich clear copper hue with a medium white head. Great hop malt aroma that belies the delicious taste of this fine brewski!!!

Pours golden tan with a thick head. Immediate sweet sugary aroma. First taste is almost like dandelions with a brown sugar aftertaste that finishes with a metallic lager. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

I don’t care what Geoff Abell (GAbell)says, this is delicious every year! Cheap and AMAZING! Golden halo in color with an amazing pine smell that either reminds me of a C9 lit Christmas tree or a glorious resin ball from a freshly used bong! Taste is spot on! Resiny goodness that makes me long for next Christmas. F Brown Shugga, this is where its at!

Bottle at home. Citrusy aroma. Pours clear gold. Think frothy head. Nice bitterness. Mild grapefruit lingers on the palate. Very nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The name Lagunitas gave to this beer is funny and ironic because of how far from the truth it is. It pours a nice amber color and generates about a finger to a finger and a half of head in the glass that laces nicely. The nose is a solid mix of the grapefruit citrus character and the nice resin notes from the hops. The taste is an almost perfectly balanced mix of hop character and malt backbone that is both refreshing and intense at the same time.

Clear orange pour with a nice white head that fades down to thick ring. Really nice lacing. Aroma is strong tropical fruit, pine, herbal, and a bit bready. Taste is a sweet citrus and caramel, with some resin and grapefruit. Nice bitterness with a sweet balance. Slick texture, medium body. Really enjoyable beer.

Golden pour with a nice head and lasting lacing. Very nice nose of grapefruit and other citrus against a slight spruce essence. Almost medium bodied with an average carbonation. The mouthfeel is almost creamy. An outstanding hop flavor with grapefruit the most forward. Spruce and a slight malt sweetness round out this well balanced ale. The alcohol content is totally hidden by the flavor. The finish is more smooth than crisp with a nice tartness and a soft bitterness. This is one of the best. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pale gold, quick dissipating white head. Hit of pine, then citrus, with some grain. Thicker mouthfeel , steady bitternes.
