COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Hazy light amber. Slightly chewy, herbal aroma. Light body, not sticky. Minty, slightly herbal. Almost refreshing, even, and it’s been a long time since I said that about a beer from these guys. Good.

(Draught) Pours a clear golden body with a medium white head. Aroma of bread, grain, citrus, caramel, and grass. Flavor of bread, grass, citrus, and pine. Sucks? Not quite, just not one of their better beers.

12oz bottle–pours a thin white head with yellow color. Aroma is tropical fruit-pineapple/lemon zest/pine, spice, some light malt. Taste is biting pine/citrus hop, then some spice/pepper, light malt, alcohol. Initially a slick mouthfeel, the drying.

Bottle. Pours amber gold with very little head. Aroma is resin, perhaps with a hint of orange. Near full bodied, thinning as the carb leaves. Flavor is resin over rye? It’s not excessively sweet, and seems pretty astringent. Lots of hop in here fer sure. Certainly not a spice/veg/herb xmas ale!

Bottle… Clear golden ale with a small, wispy, white head. Good retention. The aromatic highlights are pineapple, pine and pink grapefruit. Full-bodied and creamy with airy carbonation. The flavor tilts bitter, but not by much. Rindy, pithy hops nearly balanced by tea biscuit and toffee malts. Finishes fruity, piney and lightly bitter. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!

On tap at Capone’s. Golden pour with a small sized head. Floral hops, citrus, tropical fruits, pine, some earthiness and some rye. Nice and hoppy.

12oz bottle: pours a clear bright golden with a stringy-lacing white head. Has a huge fresh resiny hoppy nose with good lightly toasted maltiness underneath and some honeydew melon character. Starts with pretty good fullness and clean malty sweetness with lots of piny hop flavor and bitter balance before a drier more bitter and lingering finish. I love the hoppy aroma, but the finish could be a little less bitter. Nonetheless, a great IPA that I hope they make more of.

Bottle. Pours with a completely clear golden hue with a foamy white head that lasts and gives some pretty good lace. Aroma is what I expect for a fresh bottle of Lagunitas: hoppy (specifically dank and citrusy). Some pine and tropical fruit as well. Light tangerine peel. Malt aromas are honey, biscuity, and a bit bready. Mild esters. Flavors hops and a bit of crackery malt. Hops are first: citrus, grapefruit, mango, light pine. Bitterness is up front, medium to medium high but it doesn’t linger into the finish. In fact the bitterness in the finish is somewhat neutral. Malt is bready, grainy, smooth, biscuity and a bit crackery. I’d swear there is some wheat or maybe even oats in here. A hint of sweetness up front that melds well with the hops. Medium bodied, smooth and creamy. Lasting hop flavors. Medium carbonation. I’m a big fan of Brown Shugga, but I have to admit that this is a pretty solid brew here; but where as Brown Shugga seems more wintery, Sucks could be brewed any time of the year!

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2011 Pours gold with some mild carbonation and a thin layer of white bubbles around the ring of the glass. Smells of grapefruit, oranges, some resiny undertones, spicy, some toasty hints. Tastes resiny and bitter with some spicy undertones and a piney finish.
