COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Hoppy nose, golden color, bready and medium body, then a bitter, astringent finsh. Winter Seasonal? Not Really. ASA? Not Really. Worth a try? Heck Yeah.

I want to give Lagunitas a nice big hug to cheer them up. This beer is the opposite of suck. In fact this brew made the month of November for me... I’m sick of all the dumb "winter warmers" and pumpkin ales so this brew gave my palate a nice rebirth. Pours a crystal clear golden color with a tiny white head that dissipates to nothing. Aroma is of hops, rye, and tropical fruits. Taste is awesome and I also would have to venture to say i think its straight Citra hops all the way. Very bitter, little sweet, the rye is really what gave this an A+ for me. Dont cry Lagunitas... we still love you.

Bottle. Pours a golden color with small/medium head and GLORIOUS aromas of passion fruit and resin. Seriously... is this straight Citra? Flavor has a very ABV bite to it, but settles in nicely as it breathes/warms and the hops presence of tropical and citrus come through nicely, even on top of the astringent alcohol burn. Damn fine. I don’t miss Brown Shugga at all right now... not even a little.

(Draught) Pours a clear golden body with a medium white head. Aroma of bread, grain, citrus, caramel, and grass. Flavor of bread, grass, citrus, and pine. Sucks? Not quite, just not one of their better beers.

Bottle. Clear orangish golden with a fizzy white head. NIce strong floral citrus and pine hops and a crisp vegetal hoppiness with a good sweet caramel backbone and finish.

Bottle thanks to motortoddhead. Pale amber/deep gold with hid white head. Can smell this one as it hits the glass. Big pine, mango, melon, citrus, a little skunk, and a hint of the sweet malt backbone. Citra-type flavors abound with pine, lemon, mango, orange, grapefruit. Bitterness lingers, and surprisingly, so does a bit of the caramel malt character. Light, springly carbonation.

Bottle. Pours with a completely clear golden hue with a foamy white head that lasts and gives some pretty good lace. Aroma is what I expect for a fresh bottle of Lagunitas: hoppy (specifically dank and citrusy). Some pine and tropical fruit as well. Light tangerine peel. Malt aromas are honey, biscuity, and a bit bready. Mild esters. Flavors hops and a bit of crackery malt. Hops are first: citrus, grapefruit, mango, light pine. Bitterness is up front, medium to medium high but it doesn’t linger into the finish. In fact the bitterness in the finish is somewhat neutral. Malt is bready, grainy, smooth, biscuity and a bit crackery. I’d swear there is some wheat or maybe even oats in here. A hint of sweetness up front that melds well with the hops. Medium bodied, smooth and creamy. Lasting hop flavors. Medium carbonation. I’m a big fan of Brown Shugga, but I have to admit that this is a pretty solid brew here; but where as Brown Shugga seems more wintery, Sucks could be brewed any time of the year!

12oz bottle. Rating #41. Clear dark gold pour with a sticky white head that left a nice lace on the glass. Tropical fruit hop aroma with a little sweetness. Sweet tropical flavor as well, medium bitterness and really nice to drink. (2020)
