COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Surprisingly great beer. This one has a reddish copper colored pour with fluffy white head. Great hop presents with a really complex tasty malt profile with sweet caramel and toast. Better then Brown Shugga imo.

Bright yellow with no head. Smells like pine needles. Taste is much lighter than expected. Slightly sweet with only a hint of hop bitterness. Not much depth of character, mainly spruce in the taste.

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2011 On the 3rd day of Christmas, my true love of beer gods gave to me...Light sweet pleasant and hoppy notes come through in the nose softly. It pours clear deep yellow sunset with a small white head. The flavor is light hoppiness at first with some sweetness, then the hops settle with a pleasant punch/presence and no bite at all. Really awesome.

On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and shaker served with a clear, golden color, lasting, off white/light tan, moussy froth to the head foam, and sheet-like cling to the lacing. The aroma was bright, resiny spruce, citrus, some cattiness, and a hint of menthol. The flavor was hefty malt, but mainly dominated by strong, biting, sharp, earthy, rind-like, and "lingering well past the finish" hop bitterness. A water break helped, but I kept on coming back for more. No sweetness anywhere to speak of, with a medium to full body, warming alcohol after the bite, and substantial dryness that worked it’s way into the flavor and finish.

The aroma is bread, citrus, light spiciness. Bright and refreshing. The appearance is ceystal clear gold, amber tinge, white head. In appearance looks a lot like a pale lager or pilsner. The flavor is orange, lemon, caramel, bread, spicy, awesome. Medium in body. The finish is pine, citrus bittering. Despite Lagunitas’ groveling in the beer description, they managed to make a very good beer.

12 oz bottle. pours a bright golden color with a 1 finger white head which hangs on a bit. the hops pour out of the bottle as soon as you pop the cap. citrus hops on the nose with a touch of spice / rye and caramel malts. med body with an aggressive bitterness throughout softened by the supporting malt bill. spice, spruce, citrus, light pine circulate throughout. bitter lasting finish - semi-dry and delightful.

This is a pretty beer with a clear medium yellow body and a foamy white head. There’s some sweet citrus/lemon aroma with what I can only describe as a light petrol aroma in the background that I’m guessing is from the hops (it’s not bad, just interesting). Some seriously sticky hops hit up front with resinyt pine and vegetal notes along with a little rubber mat. Good malt balance to add some sweetness but the hops keep asserting themselves in a very delicious way. That hop flavor seems to evolve into some grapefruit character after the first few sips. Finishes with a sticky bitterness that makes you want to dive in for more. I wish I could give them extra points for a great description! While Brown Shugga’ will be missed, I’d like to thank Lagunitas for a worthy substitute. Can you do *both* next year??

medium gold pour with a white foamy head. strong citrusy hop aroma, very juicy. grapefruit and orange. Flavour is bitter pithy citrus peel, spruce like resin, muted caramel maltiness grainy rye bitterness. Very interseting, though the flavour is a bit of a let down after that nose full of grapefruit.

12 oz. bottle from Marketime in Fremont. Fuckin’ right down the street. Vibrant orange appearance with a wispy head. Pungent grapefruit citrus aroma hits my nose immediately. Soft orange citrus to backup the aforementioned aroma. Subtle sweet malt aroma is carrying it all forward. Damn this thing smells great. Light right in there as well. Prickly citrus hop flavor just dances all over my taste buds. Light orange citrus, and a little pine even, are all coming together perfectly. The light right is backing this all up. Fucking shit, this beer is developing really well, and leaving a pleasing bitterness on my tongue that leaves me craving more. The carbonation is oh so slightly too much. Great stuff. Very, very ,very good stuff.
