AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Draught at The Euston Tap, London. Golden amber with slim white head. Aroma of fresh citrusy, juicy fruity hops. Lots of citrusy hops in the taste, orange peel, pine. Medium to full bodied, moderate carbonation, long and big bitter finish. Very good.

Funny premise. It's a good medium body almost IPA. I know they made it in 2011 so it has aged well. Also comes in a fun 1 quart size. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Smells slightly sweet and a little grassy from the hops, pours a gold color with a small nice white head, taste is sweet with a bit of a bitter bite at the end of it. The only thing that sucks about this beer is I don’t have any more of it.

Hazy golden color with small white head. Aroma is hoppy, piney, malty, sweet. Taste is soothingly sweet, good malt body, pines, moderately bitter. Good beer, good complexity.

32 oz bottle. Poured golden with light white head. Aroma was of fruity hops. Taste was citrus, orange peel, floral, pine, pale malts. Goes down pretty nicely, not too much alcohol in the taste.

Draft after drinking a Lagunitas IPA. Taste is eerily similar. Pours a thick golden color. Aromas of cutrus, heavy floral, and dank. Flavored line up the same. Medium carbonation, medium high hopped, bitter dry finish.

12fl oz bottle poured into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint. Sparkling gold with a tall fluffy white head. Aroma is flowery hops. Flavor is pretty hoppy, fruity, and delicious but finishes with a mustiness that isn't entirely pleasant. Overall, not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clear gold with a frothy cream head. Aromas of hearty wheat, sharp rye, citrus, floral, and caramel, and the classic IPA pine, although that’s more faint. Taste is a nice medley of West Coast hops, sweet tropical fruit up front fading to that fine bitter, spicy hop-taste. Very good. Lagunitas continues to become a favorite of mine with every beer of theirs I try.

Draught. Pours clear orange with a mostly fading off white head. Aroma of orange, resinous pine, floral, lemon, perfumey. Taste is of pine, lemon, blood orange, grapefruit. Long bitter finish. Medium carbonation, oily mouthfeel. Lovely stuff.

40oz.er in brown paper bag to shaker glass, pours deep golden, monster frothy off white head. Awesome lace and retention. Aroma pine and caramel. Taste is awesomely balanced for a strong ale, moderately sweet, pleasingly bitter. Full bodied, lively carbonation, sticky mouth feel. Finishes long and bitter with a slight alcohol presence. Tasting notes of plum, raisin, pine, lemon, grass, I could go on. Sucks nice!
