COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Pours straw yellow with a white head. Aroma of grapefruit, caramel, pine, and hint of yeast. Well-balanced flavor with grapefruit, rye, pine, and caramel with touch of hops. Great beer.

Pour from a bottle. Nice golden haze with a medium head. Aroma is well balanced with hops, citrus, grass, malt and a hint of yeast. Taste is very crisp and refreshing. Near perfect balance of citrus, grass, pine and hops. Palate is smooth, crisp, refreshing and dances through different varieties of hops. Probably my favorite beer Lagunitas makes!

Light grapefruit nose with a hint of tropical fruit and a bit of malt. Slightly brothy as it warmed up in the glass. Medium bitterness, a bit harsh and coarse, but with a pleasant bitter finish. A good beer, but the flavors didn’t quite hang together in the way that they do for great beers of this type.

32oz bottle pours a pale amber color with a bit of head. Full hop flavor yet very mellow. Mild maltiness.

12 oz. pour, on tap at Lucky’s 13 in Bloomington, MN. Consumed on 3-9-14. Weak aroma of light hops and cream. The smell is overwhelmed by my girlfriend’s nearby quesadillas. The beer doesn’t smell bad, but I get very little aroma at all. Pours a clear gold with a small to moderate amount of long-lasting, off-white/cream-colored head. Produces good lacing. Hoppy, tangy, piney, dry, and slightly sour taste. Very IPA-like taste. Tangyness from the rye. Grainy flavor. Medium body. Lively and soft in the palate. Overall, the beer tastes pretty good but I can barely smell it. I count it as quite the disappointment. One of the most overrated beers I’ve encountered recently, according to me.

Pale orange pour. Crystal clear. Thin white head. Aroma is knock your socks off fresh hop pellets, peach and apricot. Tangerine, bits of white grapefruit. Flavor is on the sweet side. Malt flavors are hidden behind fruity hops. About as juicy as an IPA gets. Canned peaches, dried apricots dominate the hop flavors. Bitterness is nowhere to be found. Definite focus on sweet and juicy character but still balanced. Nothin like an overtly sweet crystal bomb. Simple but absolutely mouth-watering.

Clear gold pour with white head. Aroma is grapefruit and mango. Taste follows nose with addition of zest. One of my favorites.

Draft sample. Gold in colour with medium carbonation. Great aromas of mango, white grapefruit and guava. Very tropical hoppy in the mouth as well, but with a substantial herbal note too. There’s a lean grain element there too that’s hard to describe, but it definitely provides some balance. Substantial hop bitterness. Nicely done overall.

Pours a clear golden color. Aroma is dank pungent hops. Flavor is more pungent hops with a slightly garlic/onion character. Finishes bone dry with a very smooth bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
