AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Well balanced beer. It has a nice full body with just right amount of sweatiness that works really nice with its hoppiness. One of the best of its style, that I've tasted, I would say. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rating from memory from a few months back. Poured golden and fairly clear. Aroma of caramel, bread, cereal, and a bit of citrus. Taste was fairly sweet from beginning to end, mostly caramel and sugary. Body was pretty light. This is listed as an American strong ale, but I found it more like a Pale. Very good beer though and this was my first time getting it. Will buy more next year’s release.

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2014 Look: pours a clear golden color. White head that disappears quickly. Lacing stays around glass. Smell: strong hop smell. Very fruity. Tropical fruits. Very sweet. Tangerines, pineapple. Taste: bitter taste from the hops. Some pepper. Lemons and tangerines. Feel: light mouth feel. But still leaves a film on your teeth. Overall: ok beer, not as sweet as I had hoped. Definitely a bitter hops flavor. Not What I consider a Xmas ale, but still a good beer.

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours tiny hazy golden with a frothy white head that slowly dissipates while leaving some lacing and trace on the glass. Smell is fruity with caramel, grapefruit juice, mango sorbet, kiwi, lemon zest, lime zest, freshly cut grass, pine needles, mineral water, peach skins and hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, fruity and slightly herbal with caramel, mango puree, pineapple juice, grapefruit rinds, oily pine cones, moist grass, lemon balm, peaches, star fruit and hints of alcohol, minerals and resin. Mouthfeel is soft, round, tiny astringent and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, bitter, slightly fruity and slightly herbal with caramel, mango, kiwi, grapefruit rinds, moist grass, pine needles, lemon balm, mineral water and peaches. Feels remarkably fresh which I’m pretty sure it isn’t. Very nice IIPA which I’d love to try proper fresh some day.

Smak och doft av humle, malt, karamell, persika, aprikos, honung, granskott, örter och citrus. Lagom sötma, bra fruktighet med en lite pepprig och örtig beska. Riktigt fin.

Aroma: Smelling of bread, grape-fruit, pine and resin.
Appearance: A clear brass colored beer. A white head with good lacing and good curtains.
Taste: Tasting bread, orange, pine and grape-fruit peel.
Palate: Medium low carbonation, a soft and oily texture. A big body with a long dry finish.
Overall: In all a very strong typical west coast DIPA. Well done.
