AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

355ml bottle. Pours a clear, medium gold, with a white head. Hoppy, resiny aroma, spruce, apricot, caramel, grass, mineral, passion fruit, peach, faint yeast. Off-dry, medium to full bodied, mid to high bitterness, creamy CO2. Hoppy, resiny, faintly grainy taste, caramel, apricot, grass, butterscotch, spruce. End slightly grainy, and with the tiniest hint of astringency. Feels as if the hops are slightly tired (whisps of cheese?). Otherwise pretty nice. (2014-07-20)

Lagunitas Sucks is a medium hazy copper amber liquid with a full thick head of off white bubbles. Cedar hops are strong on the front of the scent profile. There might be a bit of citrus as well. Taste is tangy on the front with cedar notes prevailing, some undertones of sweetness follow as the taste finishes with a touch of bitters. Body is lively with active carbonation. I like this beer a great deal. Wish i had picked up more.

Bottle. Pours a golden orange with a decent, off-white head. Aroma is quite a lot of caramelly maltiness, but a lot of citrusy hoppiness as well. Taste is somewhat piney and rather resinous. Some caramel, but more citrus and mango grapefruit. Medium carbonation, rather full in the mouth. A nice sipper.

Sweet fruity aroma. Cute and very well-hopped taste. Sweet bitterness that fills the mouth a long time. Heavenly taste. I just shiver when I drink it. I really miss word for this beer. This beer is as close to perfection as you can get according to me. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours clear dark golden with a white head. Aroma is pine, resin, biscuit, passionfruit, some earthy and mineral notes as well. Taste is medium sweet caramel and resin, a lasting dry piney and grassy bitterness. Medium bodied and average carbonation.

Light orange colored clear beer with big white head leaving lacing on the glass. Aroma has fructosey sweet tropical fruits and berries, as well as piney hops and some caramel malts. Flavor is resinous bitter, citrusy and caramelly sweet. Palate is thick with moderate carbonation and stinging bitterness. Finishes with quite strong bitterness, leaving a sticky syrupy caramelly sweet, pale malty and resinous aftertaste. Gets progressively worse, aroma is better than flavor and aftertaste is the least good part of this. Still decent. Kind of a bridge between a DIPA and a Barley Wine. Still a bit too much syrupy caramel for me.
