COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Hazy light amber. Slightly chewy, herbal aroma. Light body, not sticky. Minty, slightly herbal. Almost refreshing, even, and it’s been a long time since I said that about a beer from these guys. Good.

Bottle. Golden pour. Citrus all over this along with some nice front and back end hop bite. Pretty well balanced.

Delicious. Citrusy notes, crisp, clean finish, nicely balanced, smooth from the oats. A delicious beer.

Growler from Consumers Beverages in Buffalo. Pours a very light ambar colour with white foamy head, and some lace. Aroma is hoppy with grapefruit and citrus fruit, some malt and traces of spice. flavour is quit e hoppy, but not overpowering. Grapefruit dominates, with spice and malt lingering in the aftertaste.

I liked it, but not sure what the fuss is about. Surely this is nothing special. Big nose of pine and mainly citrus, grapefruit in particular. Dark gold, some lacing. Resinous sharp taste is a tad hoppy, a tad of pine needle suckage and then your mouth feels dry from the hops.I like IPAs but how bout some subtleties as a secondary approach.

moderately pungent rye and citrus aroma with some turpentine and an Earthy funk. quenching mouthfeel with little fizzle of carbonation on the tip of my tongue. tastes like it smells even more pronouned. it is a light pale golden like a cream ale and pours like one. Perhaps a flowery funk of old flowers. appealing in it’s deviation from the norm. makes you want a good cigar.

Had this at the 2011 Pittsburgh Ratebeer Christmas Eve Eve Tasting. Smells like the body odor of your favorite girl after hard sex. Perhaps there is some floral hops perfume in the background. Looks like pale lager in appearance. First taste is super hoppy and on style. Yes big time roto tiller plowing down my throat leaving a bitter wake. There seems to be some co2 in the appearance but its certainly lacking in this soapy mouth coating oily palate. Yes, terribly on style. If you like IPA and haven’t had this monster that borders on IIPA territory, go for it and ignore my numerical slam. As stated however, for a lager lover, this beer literally sucks.....

Nice pine aroma from an amber pour with a small head. The flavor has a nice malt beginning which gives way to a big hop finish. Nice after taste lingers for a while. I’m not sure where the holiday aspect comes in but not to worry, a very good beer nonetheless.

draft at Coles, Buffalo NY. Lighter copper pour, golden notes. Great big piney grapefruit aroma. Sticky hops abound. Flavor has a sharpe fresh piney bitterness, garden weediness (a good thing) . Nice big hop flavor, no qualms about this beer. Hops, hops hops

Super clear copper coloured body with an orange glow and a thinnish off-white head. Aroma of bright citrus and grapefruit hops, some alcohol, malt and a little spice. Medium-bodied; Very bright hops at first with a nice kick, showing tons of bitterness, some malt, but mostly a nice bright hop kick. Aftertaste shows a nice rounded flavour with the emphasis on the hops and a touch of malt and sugars. Overall, a nice beer with a ton of hoppiness and a bright glow. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Tustin, California on 06-December-2011 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 24-December-2011.
