COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Pours a clear golden color with minimal white head. Smells of citrus... Mostly grapefruit. Taste is sweet citrus and tropical fruits... There is a subtle rye spice in there as well that makes it interesting. Kind of a watery mouth feel and good carbonation. Similar drinkability to their Daytime IPA although the alcohol is considerably higher. Another good hoppy offering from Lagunitas.

Bottle. Pours golden with a lingering fluffy white head. Aroma is huge resinous and citrusy hops and tropical fruits. Taste opens with the hop profile but adds a prominent earthy/malty note. Very full and smooth palate. Very nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The concept behind this is awesome! A self deprecating beer. Dark gold. Thin lacing. Very dominating hop aroma....and quite hoppy, but melts away subtly.

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2013 Bottle at home. At 45 degrees, pours a deep, clear copper with a frothy head. Strong, complex aroma of pine, orange and mango. Taste is spicy, minimally bitter - beautifully balanced. Aftertaste is subtle citrus. Eminently drinkable. Fantastic.

Pour is a hazy red-orange with a large white head. Aroma is a spicy hop and an even spicier rye malt. Flavor is a very nice hop resin with a nice rye spicy malt and cereal grain. Not totally mind blowing but a very nice rye/IPA.

On tap at Alibi Room in Gastown. Wow! This is big hop mother! Big citrus hops way up front here. Nice one!

Spicy hops. Good amount of pine. Some rye. Pretty good ipa. Probably my fav from lagunitas.

lemony citrus hops on the nose. pours a nice pale golden orange color with light off white head. slightly piney and resinous. tropical and citrus fruits taste, a little sweeter than expected but i dig it. damn fine ipa and sessionable but watch out for that 7.85% alc

Beer looks beautiful. Lush golden yellow color with a light foam. Aroma is hop pungent. Aromas of citrus, grapefruit, honey suckle, nectar. Taste is fresh and robust. Hoppy bitterness is there and full but restrained and gracefully done. This is another of those rolling beers that sits very well on the palate. I could drink a lot of this. Kind of reminds me of a drier and fuller bodied lil sumpthin. Great beer. Can’t find any faults.

Bottled. Pours a fairly clear golden with a decent sized off-white head that is mostly lasting, leaving thin, sticky lacing. Fresh hop aroma is wonderful - sweet peach and apricot flesh, moderate pine resin, slightly citric orange blossoms. High spruce and citrus fruit bitterness - fairly solid in pungency from beginning to end - allowing just a few peeks of sweet malts, leather and mild black pepper. Finish has some notes of grapefruit rind and more black pepper. Solid and very tasty.
