AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

As versatile as a beer can be. Pours to a huge head with graceful lacing. The gloriously hoppy aroma, mixing a pine forest and a citrus grove, does NOT lead to a tongue-curling bitterness. Instead you have that cereal combo platter creating the liquid version of MultiGrain Cheerios, nice and full bodied, with the bitterness just dancing around the edges. Long, long finish that eventually is dry but has gently rolling waves of sweetness and bitterness along the way.

Tap. Pint glass. Light gold with big frothy white head. Hoppy resin aroma. A bit of grapefruit taste, then oily and resin. Crisp with long lasting dry finish. Very lagunitas and very good. Does not suck.

Damn, this beer kicks arse! The pour is a golden yellow with a big frothy head with aromas of floral, fruity hops. This beer is sticky, resinous and seriously hopped with citrus and floral flavors backed with a malty, sweet body. Very fresh and very good!

Pours clear gold with a light creamy head which subsides to a light lacy topper. Major pine and citrus on the nose. Light bodies with medium carbonation. Lingers just a bit in the palate with a hint of bitterness. Drinks smooth with a perfect balance of hoppiness and malts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Surprisingly light looking. Toasted grains, caramel, grapefruit and a healthy amount of hop bitterness. Malty and a bit thick feeling. Alcohol is well hidden.

Bottle from Lazy Dog. Pours a nice transparent gold with very little head and a bit of lacing. Aroma of citrus, oranges and pineapples mostly, with subtle hoppy hints. Taste is almost reverse, with upfront bitterness that fades into a floral sweetness. Very very nice beer.

12oz bottle - pours a vibrant gold , off white head with heavy lacing . Piney resinous aromas . Mild grapefruit , mango and tangerine flavors . The upfront bitterness leads to an almost mildly sweet and fruity finish . Outstanding ! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

1/22/2014. From bottle. Amber color with a white head. Hoppy aromas, almost like an IPA with spice and tropical fruit. Bitter, malty, hoppy - so very good!

Good strong beer. Has a little bit of a different taste to it but it's still delicious. Not sure what it would pair with. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Despite what the label says, lol, this is a fine replacement for Brown Shugga. Hoppy like an IPA, not sure why its styled as an ASA, but that’s fine, I would have maybe put it in the red/amber ale category, abv isn’t high enough for an ASA. Reddish pour, thicker than thought, nice aroma of pine and citrus, maltier than an IPA, caramel and pancake like flavor. Nice one.
