COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

On tap at Taproom 307 (and listed as 9.5%). Golden with lasting white head. Pungent yet soft grapefruity pastry floral aroma. Awesome dry subdued fruity pineapple slight biscuit sweetness with very clean and delicious and dry hoppy citrus finish. Fucking excellent.

First off, this is an IPA, not an American Strong Ale. Anywho...Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Color is crystal clear gold with minimal head, and bubbles rushing up the side of the glass. Aroma is HUGE - piney resinous hops, citrus, and grass/weeds. Taste is extremely bitter with a nice balancing malt sweetness. Mouthfeel is very crisp and dry. This is a fantastic IPA. I’ve seen the Pliny comparison a lot, but this is the closest I’ve had.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2012 Bottle. Oh, Holy Night! What a big, creamy, hoppy aroma! This is a golden-amber brew, quite active, with a nice sudsy, if thin, head. The beer delivers on the initial whiff -- creamy, indeed. The hops rolling over the tongue with a delicious fruity, frothiness. This is downright yummy. (#4410, 12/18/2011)

Pours a gorgeous crystal clear gold with a nice head. Aroma is total hops with lots of pine, grass and a hint of floral. Thinner in body than expected with a perfect amount of carbonation. Flavor is pine, citrus and earthy grain and is very dry. I would have liked a bit more sweetness to balance all the hops, but still a top quality beer.

Out of the bottle in a pint glass. True to Lagunitas, this has massive hops on the nose. Lots of earth, pine, floral and wet grass. Great full aroma. Amazingly clear gold with small-ish white head. Well balanced sweet malt and hop bitterness. Nice floral hints throughout the flavor. The bitterness is not overly done. Taste lingers throughout. Medium mouthfeel leads to a dry finish. A slight bit of candy at the end of the taste. An amazing beer...but Lagunitas still sucks and i look forward to the return of Brown Shugga’.

355mL thanks to tastybeer. A clear golden pour with a larger, off-white rocky head. Nose is just $&@#&# insane! Smells like I was awoken from a stupor in a British Columbia marijuana farm. Dank hops explosion. Holy crap. Mild notes of pale malt, wheat, oatmeal, jackfruit melon, and candied orange peel come through. Insane dry hop character. Taste is not too sticky, fresh, well balanced, mild alcohol spice. Palate is very soft and silky and small saltwater quenching. Mild piney hop character. I can’t believe it- Lagunitas best beer by a mile. Makes Hop Stoopid look a little stoopid. Why this is called a "holiday ale" is beyond me but this is on another level from Brown Shugga. Actually on another level from Lagunitas. How did this happen? I would seriously consider this beer as a DIPA of choice over Pliny the Elder. Why is this listed as ASA? This is a DIPA masterpiece.

Bottle thanks to Ari.Pours a clear orange with a hint of a gold hue and a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is full of hops with marijuana, strong pine and a good amount of dankness. Flavor is extremely dank with marijuana and pine with some backing sweet grains and a bit of grass in the finish.

On draught at Pinocchios, and then again at home outta the bottle. Super pine and citrus nose and taste all the way through. Solid. Reminds me of Pliny.

Bottle. Amber with a short white head. Aroma is strong grapefruit and pine notes with caramel, spicy hops, and citrus oils. Taste is big grapefruit notes, pine resins, orange rind, caramel, sweet malt and spices. Body is medium with a soft, bubbly carbonation. Oily in spots with a moderate lingering carbonation. Ends with more grapefruit, pine, caramel, sweet malt, spicy hop notes, candied fruit and citrus oils.
