AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Bottle:   Golden, fairly clear, thin to moderate white head, sudsy, sparce lacing, light carbonation.   Sharp pithy aroma, citrus peel, hoppy, smells just like a Lagunitas Strong Ale.   Big citrusy bitterness up front, hoppy, with a moderate malt base.   Seems like a big Hoppy Red Ale.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Finish is citrusy, lots of that orange pithy bits, and of course hops.   This seems like crappy a replacement for Brown Shugga.   Sorry, but this is just like every other Lagunitas Strong Ale, decent, but nothing to write home about.

Bottle (12 oz). Clear golden/orange with a frothy off-white and good lacing. Aroma is of tropical fruits (grapefruits, mango, pineapple), piney notes and rye distinctive presence. Taste is slightly to moderately sweet with a moderate resinous presence and slight tropical fruits notes. Moderate bitterness. Medium body. Slightly dry mouthfeel. Medium carbonation. Very good IPA. Refreshing and drinkable.

Thanks to 5000 for sending this bottle. Yellow with a white head. Aroma is heavy on the pine and oranges. Flavor is strong pine and orange, a well as some biscuit malt. Low to medium bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle from CBB. Very nice citrus fruit salad nose, orange, grapefruit, tropical stuff too. Deep gold with a tall, fine head. Fabulous hop flavor. Citrus, tropical fruit, stone fruit too. Nice sweetness without much caramel, Sprite, tangy, peppery finish but not overwhelmingly bitter. Excellent stuff, though just a bit too much like a soda pop.

12 oz. bottle. Lots of aromatic citrus hops with a touch of pine. Smells great! The taste is pine and resin upfront followed by grapefruit pith, peaches and touch of spiciness. Malty cracker or crystal malts added nicely to balance the brew. Bitterness only hangs for a short duration. The bitterness comes from pine. Medium-bodied with a creamy texture with active carbonation. 7.85 ABV isn’t anywhere to be found. It drinks like a 5% IPA. Overall for how widely available this brew is, I feel this is worth the price of a six pack. It’s a flavorful brew that is easy to drink and for the price it’s hard to match. Another nice offering from this brewery.

Pours amber with a frothy white head that leaves a ton of lacing. Nose is grain and a bit of citrus. Flavor is nutty with a malty sweetness and there is a bit of a citrus hop component. A nice beer, but I don’t fully understand the hype with this one.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold color with a nice frothy white head. Lacing is decent. Aroma is tropical grapefruit and pine. Taste is similar with a bit of sweetness from the grain. Not very bitter. Medium bodied with a dry finish. In general, I usually rave about Lagunitas; but this one leaves me wanting more. See eevryone in Chi town soon!

The Christmas beer that tastes like summer in a glass! Huge tropical fruit nose - sunshine beaming out of the glass. Light, but solid malt backbone giving the hop explosion ample room to work off. A great IPA - full on, balls to the walls hops in your crotch.

Bottle at Antenna America. Golden colour, small off white head. Aroma is hoppy, tropical fruit and skunky. Lots of bitterness. Taste is less harsh, nice fruitiness with slight spicy maltiness, tangerine. Very nice but quite full on.

In my opinion I agree this beer reflects its name rhymes with bucks. Def not an ipa I would search and buy again. All round loser with so many wonderful ipas out there, hard to believe that it is limited edition, yikes!
