AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

P: Orange copper body with a bubbly thin top of off white clouds. S: Super fruity and sweet. Grapefruit, blood orange, apricots, pomegranate, mango, honey dew and pineapple. Sweet candy malt and very subtle flower aroma. T/M: Clementine oranges, ruby red grapefruit with sugar sprinkled on top, apricots, and melon. Crystallized sugar accompanied by bitter lemon/line peel and timid spices. Overall palate is big time fruity and sweet, opposed to a harsh bitterness. Sticky medium body with gentle carbonation and a smooth but dry finish. O: All I can say is "I love this beer!" Hands down one of the best I gave had. Super excited to try the rest of the Lagunitas line up. Cheers!

I had been wanting to try this and was lucky enough to pickup a six pack and also a 64 oz growler. This review is based on the growler. Pours a golden/orange with a 2 finger white head and decent lacing. Aroma is tropical fruit, citrus and some pine. The hop spectrum is covered extremely well. Taste is sweet up front with tropical fruit flavors and then the bitter citrus kicks in. There is just enough malt presence to keep things balanced. Medium Medium-light bodied bodied with a clean and dry finish. I preferred Fusion XVIII (which isn’t a fair comparison since it is a 10% abv beer) but this beer is excellent.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2014 Light golden with two fingers of tight bottle conditioned beige head. Aromas of pine, honey, lemon, berries, maybe some light tropical like pineapple or mango. Taste follows the nose nicely. A nice fairly easy drinking beer.

Been waiting awhile to try this. Pours a lighter golden shade with long lasting head and nice lacing. This is as dank and meaty smelling of an ale as I’ve ever smelled. Wow! Pretty amazing. You do get notes of lemon in here too. Flavors are malty at first.. Bit that intense meaty dank hop flavor confess through quickly with hints of citrus here and there. Awesome!

Fruity malty aroma. Taste is citrus and floral hop predominantly. Well balanced and full flavored. Really a solid beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer pours a dark gold color with a small white head that leaves a lot of lacing. Smells of hops, very fruity, and malt sweetness. The taste starts out with some hops character, some citrus other tropical fruits and later is balanced by the malt character. Good beer

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2015 Deep gold, hazy, explosive head. Very full body, intense flavors, rich but refreshing mouthfeel, abundant carbonation, heat gives it a kick, long palate. High bitterness disguised by plenty of sweet malty background, less so in the finish, good acidity and balance. Simple in flavor, hoppy, citrus rind, passion fruit. Good, not great.

Bottle, thanks to Bernatbeer. Golden colour with white head. Hoppy, fruity, malty aroma. Hoppy, bitter, fruity and resinous taste, some sweetness and maltiness. Medium to full body, very drinkable.

12oz in Seattle. Glad to finally get my hands on a sixer of this. Ruddy dark gold with big white head. Amazing aroma of fresh skunky hop and dark sugars. Big grapefruit and gym sock, I love it. Rich beer, good carbonation, a bit thin in the middle but this is damn tasty. Great nose on this.

12oz bottle pours clear toasted orange with 2 finger head. Nose is big tangy grapefruit and citrus. Taste is bitter grapefruit, tropical fruit, pineapple, resin, some oniony notes. Finish is lasting bitter lemony citrus with just enough malt to offset the bursting hops. Tons of flavor but still very clean and crisp. Really nice IPA.
