3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nothing special here. A relatively high-alchohol beer without the bite of other Lagunita offerings. Lacks the flavoring expected in a holiday ale.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Smells a bit hoppy, looks okay. A bit pale. This is an okay beer. Has some hops throughout and a bit of dryness in the finish but it’s just okay really. Most of their others are just better.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
It’s just not possible for beer to smell better than this one. The aroma is the first attraction here, but the flavor measures up just as well. In my mind this is a very balance IPA, not a strong ale (pure labeling there). Bitterness pushes the envelope for me, but stays away from being harsh and over done. Malt flavor comes through and works well with the hops. A new favorite IPA.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Fairly clean and dry for a Lagunitas beer, golden with fine white foam. Tangy with hop effects in the citrus range and light pine. Pepper and light bitter in the finish. Malt is subdued, light caramels, bit of grape nuts. One of the best Lagunitas beers in this range. Well done.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2011 Pours gold with some mild carbonation and a thin layer of white bubbles around the ring of the glass. Smells of grapefruit, oranges, some resiny undertones, spicy, some toasty hints. Tastes resiny and bitter with some spicy undertones and a piney finish.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle, $9.99 a 6-pack. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a clear dark gold color with about a half inch off-white head. The small head did stay around a while, and there’s a good amount of lacing left on the glass. Aroma is nice and hoppy, it smells mostly like pine and citrusy (grapefruit, tropical fruit) hops, along with a little bit of sweet malt. The taste is pretty much the same as the aroma, it’s full of pine and citrusy hops, and some sweet malt is noticeable too. There’s a bit of sweetness in this brew, but it’s still mostly hoppy and has a lingering bitter finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a little slick and sticky with good carbonation. I think it’s a pretty good brew, not a bad way to make up for the lack of Brown Shugga this year!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle. Bright golden pour with some chill haze. Big, strong hoppy aroma with some sugar cookie malt. Lots of pine, citrus, orange peel along with the sweet, doughy malt. Flavor is nice and bitter. Pine, citrus, mild sweet malts. Pretty excellent, actually. Feels like a slightly fuller IPA. Honestly, I didn’t really care for Brown Shugga all that much anyway. This is a winner from Lagunitas.
