COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Translucent bright golden pour with a thick white head. Resin, floral, and spruce along with cereal malt and citrus undertones. Crisp, light-bodied, lively carbonation, clean bitter finish. Would want a higher abv to call this an American Strong Ale, closer to an IPA

Bottle. Pours a clear golden-orange with a thin white head, excellent retention and decent lacing. Nose is resinous hops with a bit of dankness and some tropical fruit notes (mainly guava). Mouth is medium bodies and typical of LBC’s hop-forwardness profiles: pine, citrus, tropical fruit. Some candy notes on the middle, and a faint but lingering bitterness on the backend with some bready notes. Out-fucking-standing! Who says the holidays are over?

Bottle. This American Strong Ale skirts the line nicely between IPA and DIPA. Pours hazy butterscotch with a medium white head and nice lacing. Aroma is quite nice grapefruit, tropical fruits, and pine resin. Flavor is the same, lightly sweet with a light to medium bitterness. Not really picking anything up from the cereal medley, but what the hey. Medium body, oily mouthfeel. Nice beer.

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2014 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy, golden color with a white head and sticky lacing. Smells awesome! Strong notes of citrus fruit, tangerine and perhaps mango as well as a powerful pine and floral aroma. Smooth and creamy with a bitter but well balanced hoppy, fresh taste. Nice long finish. A really great strong ale/IPA. Lagunitas most definitely does not suck! 9,4,8,4,15 4.0Update: 12 oz bottle from Evergreen Discount into a pint glass. Gold and clear with a white head and sticky lacing. Nice aroma of tropical/citrus fruits, pine, floral, fresh hops, toasted malts and light caramel. Similar flavor, fresh, bitter, lightly sweet and lightly fruity. Medium body with a dry feel and a lingering finish. 9,4,8,4,16 4.1

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2013 Bottle at home. Appearance is golden orange with a big white head and great lacing. Huge grapefruity, citrusy, resinous, ganja aroma, with light notes of caramel and biscuit. Taste is super dank, sweet caramel, grapefruit, orange peel, grass, pine, weed, and floral with a big bitter finish. Sticky mouthfeel with high carbonation. Great IPA, but not quite on Brown Shugga’s level; nice stuff regardless.

Type: Draft Glass: Mason jar From: Ciro’s Pizza Price: $6.50 Misc.: As part of Lagunitas Tap Takeover Night at Ciro’s Pizza; Got to keep the Lagunitas mason jar Poured a golden orange color with one finger of white head when I got it. Good circular lacing on the sides all the way down. Average-to-above average retention on the top. Holy bitter hops on the nose! Got healthy doses of pine, citrus (grapefruit, lemon) and floral hops. Also some resin. Very flavorful, definitely the best part of the beer. Tasted bitter grapefruit hops right from the beginning, but not too lingering. Sweet floral taste as well. Also orange pulp. Reminded me a lot of the Daytime IPA. Light body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish. I really, really liked this beer. Nice and smooth and would love to have it again. Well done Lagunitas.

Appearance was clear orangish gold with diminishing creamy white 1 finger head, rings of lacing. Aromas are mango, orange, lemon then sweet pale malts. Taste are citrus fruits of grapefruit, mango, lemon and orange, then sweet pale, caramel malts and hints of pine. Palate are smooth creamy CO2 with meduim body, then citrusy piney paleish lasting finish. A great citrusy ipa.
