AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Bright gold with dirty sea-foam colored head 5mm thick, fades slowly, medium-fine. Guava, passion fruit, floral, sweet hay, Body is medium, oily, slightly gritty, carbonation is light and smooth blanket. Flavor is lemon, gauva, lightly sweet mixed citrus juice, touch of leafy deciduous forest. This is delicious!!! It should absolutely be labeled as an IPA though.

Big 32 oz In iPa glasses. Clear amber, really shines in the light. Light, fluffy head. Aroma of pine and orange, clean. Taste is sweet and smooth, with a hop bite on the finish. Damn good beer.

Delicious. Less onion, more citrus than hop stoopid. Hop bitterness is more elegant than stoopid. Lagunitas doesn't suck ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Big offwhite head. Clear deep yellow body with carbonation. Resiny orangey aroma with bread dough and raisins aroma. Sweetish resiny orangey taste with syrupy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish resiny orangey aftertaste with spicy bready notes. Lovely, drinkable, full of flavour, yet clear and fresh. (0.355l bottle, I forget where from.)

Poured from the bottle into a snifter. Pours a cloudy orange color with a small white head. Aroma consists of floral notes, citrus, pine, resin, and cereal. Well balanced beer that does not overdo anything. The citrus, pine, malts, make a really nice beer that is not overly bitter. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a sticky mouth feel. Excellent beer, especially for the price.

There rises a little heavy malt scent up the glass, containing pine and resin. In the mouth also nicely mellow, with the alcohol present, on top of the almost sticky (not negative) taste of resin and malt. Almost like a double IPA. The bitter hops lasts well into the aftertaste but with no floral or spicy impression from the small green buds. Overall it seems almost like a cross between double IPA and barley wine. I think that it ends sympathetic although not well balanced, as I am sure the intention was.

Golden colour with a white creamy head. Strong aroma with hops and fruits. Flavour of grassy hops with a sweet smell of elderflower, some toffee and sweet mandarin. Taste of toffee and some burnt sugar with a medium bitterness but with a sweeter after-taste. Orange and grapefruits.

Guess I hadn’t rated this yet. Clear golden with a big, sticky head. The aroma is full on passion fruit, grapefruit, and orange, citrus zest, resin, and floral hops. There is also some slightly earthy malt, and a touch of alcohol. The flavor is a little more malt forward, with a lot of residual fruity flavors. This stuff is fantastic, boy do they suck.
