4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
6 pack from Chuck’s 85th. Pours bright golden orange with thick white head. Aroma is tart citrusy earthy hops with underlying sweetness. Taste is sweet lighter caramel malt followed by big fresh juicy hop flavors - grassy, grapefruit, and pine notes. Finishes cleanly bitter. Lots of hype around this one... and it passes the test. This is legitimately delicious. Kind of a de-tuned Stone ’Enjoy by... IPA’. Easily the best Lagunitas I’ve had, and that’s saying something. They need to find room for this in the regular lineup.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 oz. pour, on tap at Lucky’s 13 in Bloomington, MN. Consumed on 3-9-14. Weak aroma of light hops and cream. The smell is overwhelmed by my girlfriend’s nearby quesadillas. The beer doesn’t smell bad, but I get very little aroma at all. Pours a clear gold with a small to moderate amount of long-lasting, off-white/cream-colored head. Produces good lacing. Hoppy, tangy, piney, dry, and slightly sour taste. Very IPA-like taste. Tangyness from the rye. Grainy flavor. Medium body. Lively and soft in the palate. Overall, the beer tastes pretty good but I can barely smell it. I count it as quite the disappointment. One of the most overrated beers I’ve encountered recently, according to me.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pale orange pour. Crystal clear. Thin white head. Aroma is knock your socks off fresh hop pellets, peach and apricot. Tangerine, bits of white grapefruit. Flavor is on the sweet side. Malt flavors are hidden behind fruity hops. About as juicy as an IPA gets. Canned peaches, dried apricots dominate the hop flavors. Bitterness is nowhere to be found. Definite focus on sweet and juicy character but still balanced. Nothin like an overtly sweet crystal bomb. Simple but absolutely mouth-watering.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft sample. Gold in colour with medium carbonation. Great aromas of mango, white grapefruit and guava. Very tropical hoppy in the mouth as well, but with a substantial herbal note too. There’s a lean grain element there too that’s hard to describe, but it definitely provides some balance. Substantial hop bitterness. Nicely done overall.

Pours a clear golden color. Aroma is dank pungent hops. Flavor is more pungent hops with a slightly garlic/onion character. Finishes bone dry with a very smooth bitterness.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A very solid imperial IPA from Lagunitas. Has a large amount of hops and bitterness but it goes down pretty smooth.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Very clear amber colored pour, lots of bubbles, durable head. The looks remind me of Sierra Nevada Celebration, and that’s a very good start. The smell was highly potent out of the glass at an arm’s length. Very citric hops with a touch of pear, and the intensity is great. I could just smell this beer for a while. The taste another hop assault, as the grapefruit, tangerine, and bitter orange flavors just hit all at once. The malt is not much of a presence here except providing some sticky sweetness. Medium dense and creamy feeling in the mouth. This was a very well crafted DIPA. There is of course no substitute for Brown Shugga, but I hope they keep this one around too. Otherwise they would really suck :)
