COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Appearance is golden with slight haze and thick creamy white foam cap. Intense hop aroma, with strong citrus and hints of pine. Great bready malt flavor up front with a strong but well balanced hop bitterness that doesn’t overpower. Medium creamy mouthfeel, especially for an IPA. Finishes with a clean hop bite and touch of warmth from the alcohol.

Had a pint on tap at Ashley’s. Quite hoppy, a slight sweet edge on the finish. Solid, not my style.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a huge bubbly white head that leaves a lot of lacing behind. Aroma is big, sweet and hoppy, of brown sugar, malt, pine hope, and a hint of candied citrus. Rich taste, of candied citrus, malt, sugar, toffee, then picks up a big hoppy bite. Lingering sweet hops. Very tasty.

On tap at Prohibition Pig, Waterbury Vermont. Golden like an IPA. Aroma is hops - smells like an IPA. Taste is the same (like an IPA). Mild hop bite on finish. Overall, just a solid, balanced India Pale.

Pours a clear gold, with some lacing and fun carbonation. Tastes of hops, grapefruit, and just a little funk. Not really for me, but I get why others like it.

Had this on tap and from many, many bottles. OK, I don’t know why they have this labeled as a strong ale, as it is a double IPA. Pours clear amber with a white head. Nose is of citrus and tropical fruits. Taste is a delicious mix of grapefruit, tangerine and tropical fruits. Mouthfeel is creamy with a nice bitter hop bite. I love this brew so much and the fact that it is only about $10 per six-pack doesn’t hurt a bit. I kept searching and buying this while it was in stock. Drank cases of this stuff. Would love for this to be a regular in their lineup instead of just a seasonal.

Ironically better than what it was made to replace. LIght sweet, and pine taste in great balance with a great light lingering after taste.

I rate high, but this is a great beer. Lots of lacing on the glass. Thin head, crystal clear gold to orange color. Aroma of citrus fruits and slight dank malt. It has a smooth dry taste and a dry finish but lingering citrus and malt notes. I bought this because I enjoyed Brown Shugga, very very happy it is totally not even close to that beer...freakin’ awesome.
