AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Wow what a friggen Suprise! Saw Brown Sugga somewhere on the carton, got excited and bought a sixer. This is better than brown. Especially after the third one....... Seriously though, pours a clear rustygold, mild head. No lacing. Nice citrus, earthy and slight dank nose. Taste of grapefruit, light malt, yeast, alcohol, the the hops kick in and build for 3-4 seconds. Nice mouthfeel, slight astringent aftertaste. Overall one of the better ipas I’ve had from lagunitas. I need this in keg size.........

Pours clear golden color with a thin white head. Aroma; hop, passionfruit, some honey and orange. Flavours; mango, blood orange, passionfruit with a pinch of cinnamon. A little bit thin thru all the flavours in the taste palette.

From the bottle the pour is clear yellow and brown, the aroma is ale not sure I get the other hints possibly brown sugar, the taste is lightly hopped a little sweet, the finish is clean I get the brown sugar notes in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium.

Pours clear dark golden with some white head. A tropical aroma that turns into deep resin with the toffee flavours from the malts. The rye is strongly present in the taste. I wonder how they made this so full-bodied and light given all the malts involved and the complex taste.

355 ml bottle, at a breakfast joint in Petaluma. Deep golden to orange colour, large off-white head. Aroma and flavour of citrus, pine, caramel and sweet malts. Maybe a bit too far out on the sweet side for me, but still a fairly nice beer. Some alcohol in the finish. Anyway, I wouldn’t say that it sucks.

(Rating #6510)

355ml bottle from Systembolaget (as Holiday Ale 7.7%, vintage 2015). Almost clear golden, medium size, white head, good lacing. Hoppy sweet citrus aroma, tangerines, sweet orange, pineapple and ripe kiwi fruit. Sweet silky mouthfeel, full bodied, gentle carbonated. Sweet and fruity taste, tropical sweet fruits, orange marmalade with a pleasant bitterness from citrus peel in the finish.

Bottle at Villain & Saint. Nice copper body with slight head. Nose floral, caramel, malts, yeasty. Tastes quite malty, bitter, with hops and fruits in there as well. Really nicely done beer with so many different flavours. Great!
