COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

From a 12 oz bottle. Could not determine when brewed. Purchased from HEB here in The Woodlands. Cracked it open into a Mad Elf snifter. Lots of carbonation with about an inch of head that calmed down eventually. Tons of floral bouquet and grapefruit mango notes. Aroma wise on par with the best. As some have said before the taste doesn’t live up to the aroma. As with a lot of Lagunitas beers, it’s really sweet and syrupy, almost like a barley wine. Good hop hit on the tongue. Decent carbonation. Abv not too high. Texas doesn’t get a lot of good beers so I compare all my IPAs to Ballast Point Sculpin which I can get and Sucks is not quite there. If Sculpin is a 5.0 this is a decent 4.2. Also about $4 less a sixer than Sculpin. L Sucks runs about $10 here in Texas. Get it if you see it but I wouldn’t go on a manhunt for it.

Nice sweet malt nose with pine coming through. Makes you excited to taste Taste is like the nose, nice balance and sweet without being fake or cloying. The high carbonation helps to keep balance and makes you want to take another sip Very enjoyable afternoon supper with a kick. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

32 oz bottle poured into 12 oz snifter. Definitely a bottle size you should share... Solid IIPA, very very drinkable. Compared to newer IIPAs lower alcohol, lower sweetness, not over the top, kinda nice to have that option!

Quart bottle shared by Elijah, thanks! Pours yellow gold with a white head. Aroma is biscuit, dank hop. Flavor is caramel, but, dank hop. Very nice.

Clear golden color, big frothy white head. Aroma is tropical fruits, pineapple, mango, resin, biscuit malt. Flavor is tropical fruit, pineapple and mango. Lots of biscuit malt, and a whole bunch of other malt character I can?t quite describe (rye maybe). Hoppy finish. Really good.

Tap at CBR, gold with a lightly spicy and orangey nose, a fleeting sweetness disappears beneath a wave of dry-bitter hoppiness, leaving tantalising hints of tropical fruit and honey.

Lagunitas Sucks (32-oz. bottle) has a thin, off-white head, a mostly clear, orange-gold appearance, a few stray bubbles, and a bit of lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of standardized, piney hop resin, and a touch of white bread. Taste is the same, with noticeable, but not harsh, hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium, and Lagunitas Sucks finishes semi-dry and fairly drinkable. RJT

Bottle: Pale, golden straw with great clarity. Only a very subtle haziness at the core. Voluptuous, foamy white head chunks up nicely & sits on top, fluffy as hell & lasting for days. Loads of chunky lacing left all around the glass. Great aroma of unabashed hoppiness. Pine, citrus peel, pineapple, dank nuggets, oranges, sticky wet mango, grapefruit... Wow. Tons of both tropical & citrus fruits going to town on your nose. Lovely resinous & leafy undertones with a mild spicy bite. Flavors of pine, resinous oils, citrus, pineapple, toast, crackers, green onion, grass, buttered bread, herbal tea leaves, under-ripe pineapple, & just a hint of alcohol. Heavy carbonation snaps the tongue nicely, mostly dry in the finish, lingering with lightly sweet biscuit malt, peppery-herbal hop leaves, & a touch of citrus peel. Delicious.

the juice is loose, pouring out of this thirty and deuce. Label stipulates an ABV of eight but RB’s data is a little late. Fizzy white froth floating on top, not a drop of this ish I will drop. Paint thinner permeates my nose, better sip on this or I will doze. The mouth scream of citrus aroma, bust out a beer bong to put me in a coma. Taste is bitter and mildly sweet, called over my wife to rub my feet. Lagunitas won’t sell to a major, for a couple of bucks. No doubt about it, Lagunitas sucks! - I would like to thank the Beastie Boys and KMFDM for inspiring my rating.
