AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 7.85% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

This fresh hopped beast anything but sucks. Opens with an excellent fresh hopped aroma and delivers on the fresh hop promise with a beautiful earthy taste and an almost orange peel after taste. The smoothness and slight maltyness enhance the profile making the perfect American ipa. Hats off!

I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. It pours a cloudy golden color with a nice white head and lacing. The aroma is hops, booze, and burnt sugar. The taste is strong on hops with hints of booze, fruit, and brown sugar. It was flavorful. It was drinkable for the alcohol content. This was pretty good.

Very nice balanced beer, between malt and hops. Nice medium bodied beer, good easy drinking beer for being 8.0%.

Rated on 10-01-2015 (Bottle-Don Hall’s Factory-Fort Wayne, IN) This beer’s appearance is a very small beige head that mostly diminished, yellow hazy body, fast rising carbonation, some floaties, and spotty lacing. The aroma is citrus and pine hops, pineapple, grapefruit, tropical fruits, some spice, earthy, light perfume, and malt. The flavor is moderately bitter, citrus and pine hops, fruity, earthy, and malt. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium-full bodied. This is a very, very quaffable beer with a very good flavor and an enjoyable beer to rate and drink. It is worth trying and a beer I would definitely drink again and again.

Hop forward, and that is just the way I like it. Lagunitas always blows me away; when you think you found the best beer in their line another crops up to enjoy. Fantasic notes of hops, resin, and carmel. The taste of brown sugar never really came across for me, though the appearance and taste merit the name.

I’ll tell you what, nice job here by lagunitas. Looks great in glass, lots of bubbles streaming up. Feels good to drink, nice carbonation. Smells the way you like IPAs to smell. And tastes the way you like em to taste. Maybe a bit toned down from some of your fav IPAs. Certainly interchangeable with some other ones you like NYD.

Poured from a coupla quarts which is what most beer companies should do instead of the 22 ouncers. This is a real good substitute for all the beers that come out in the fall and try to soup up marzen and fall styles that have been taken to their limits. This is hoppy, a little bit sweet, strong, and very enjoyable.

Bottle poured a lightly hazy orange hue with large white lasting head and great lacing. Moderate malty straw aroma. Initial flavor is moderate sweet w/ a bold bitter finish. Tastes are pine, caramel, brown sugar, grass, and pineapple. Creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. A- Pine, spruce, bitter, citrus, dank, resin. A- Orange color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Pine, bitter, herbal, subtle citrus. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- For some reason I expected this to be like a barleywine. I guess in a sense it was...but not really. More like an aggressive IPA from hell. Loved the aroma but the taste was a little too much for me. Liked it more than I thought I would.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass. Appearance: pours a 2" sudsy white head that drops slowly with plenty of lacing. Color is golden-yellow with plenty of sediment in suspension and tons of carbonation. Aroma: citrus, grapefruit and some extra citrus just for good measure. Mouthfeel: medium bodied and oily with a mostly dry finish. Flavor: citrus and pine with malt sweetness and white bread dough. Overall: a nice sipper, appropriate to the style.

Poured golden with with head. Quite a hoppy aroma, grapefruit and pine. Lots of grapefruit in the flavour too. Very hoppy. Tastes like a good ipa. Really good beer.
