ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Mar 8, 2009 Bottle (35 cl), thanks larsniclas. Clear copper, no head. Bock-like sugary malt aroma with caramell, fudge, almond, along with some citric hops. Medium bodied and smooth. Well balanced, with a dry and bitter finish. doublebock (196), USA Mar 8, 2009 Nice auburn translucent colorwith thick lawer of stout like tan head. Subtle bready aroma that masks what’s about to come esp the high ABV.
Sweet maltiness with cherry and esters on back of tongue. Hoppy bite pours on at the swallow jb (1024), Rochester, New York, USA Mar 6, 2009 Very similar looking in every way to the beer I had before it by Flying Dog, dark orange, reddish highlights, a mat of foam stays stuck to the glass for several inches. The aroma is quite fruity, very sweet, sicky sweet at that. Still I was a bit surprised by the sweetness of the palate. Lots of ingredients in there. Bit of hops rounded it out so it stayed in balance. A nice product. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Mar 6, 2009 Very akin to a Barley Wine, IMHO. The aroma was very fruity, brown sugar, raisins. Tne appearance is beautiful, a dark red/brown, off white head. The flavor is fruity, malty, brown sugar. Very nice. The finish has a decent component of hops, providing the appropriate bittering on the finish. The moutheel was very creamy and enjoyable. Excellent beverage overall. 0o9i (326), Reno, Nevada, USA Mar 4, 2009 Many bottles. Deep copper-to-garnet coloring and a small off-white head that turns into a ring and laces a bit. Mouth is fullish with light carbonation; finish is pretty wet. Aroma is booze, wood, musk, funky caramel, dark fruits, bread dough. Flavor is malty with sugar, caramel, alcoholic warmth, an interesting sour musty barn thing and a sour, yeasty and woody finish accented by piny hops. The yeasty-sour is the only thing I really like about it. Trademark over-the-top malts of Lagunitas with a little Belgian flair. 41cubs (131), , New Jersey, USA Mar 3, 2009 Really tasty but mellow to the core. Very light aroma but it smells like a saturated malt with orange juice but only the fruitiness, none of the acidity. Taste is more of the same but stronger and unlike a lot of beers today I think the flavor is very simple. Both the smell and taste show some raisin as well. What makes this stand out is that it it very rich and full in flavor and mouthfeel. If your looking for an alcohol punch but without the harshness, this may be your tune up. Thank you Lagunitas. 2008 12 oz. BeerNeedy (60), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Mar 2, 2009 12 0z bottle. An aroma of caramel and chocolate. Poured a medium clear brown with a small tan head. Flavor of strong ale that grows over time. Palate is strong with a resiny alcoho base. Overall not a bad strong ale. carruthm (1109), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 1, 2009 dark brown color with one finger head. muted aroma, of malt. taste of strong barley, some alcohol and dark fruits; prunes, raisins.
