kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 1, 2009 12oz bottle from Jans Wine and Boos#2 (Tampa, FL). Pours a murky dark cola brown with a massive two finger tan head that settles slowly and heavily laces the glass. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of raisins, caramel, brown sugar, some floral hop presence. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of raisins, ripe dark fruit, caramel, honey, some floral hops. Generally medium body with a malty and slightly hoppy finish. crondonik (32), California, USA Mar 1, 2009 12.oz Bottle. Dark amber/ red in color with a fairly sturdy head. Smells to me like there is a Belgian or European yeast strain being used that gives it a dark fruit aroma and taste. No hint of alcohol anywhere just hearty malt with some hops in there as well. Good for the style. bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA Feb 28, 2009 On Tap at McRaney’s. Beautiful red color. Very easy to drink especially for 9%. Sweet malts sugar and mild fruitiness. This could get you into trouble. real quick. CheersMate1 (770), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Feb 27, 2009 Nice dark brown appearance. Very nice looking. Fairly transparent. I have been waiting for this one for a long time. Picked this sucker up Greens on Ponce. Malt aroma that is decent. It is not a very pungent beer. Has a malt aroma. Wish it had more of a bitter aroma, but I need not complain. Very creamy beer. This beer has an excellent balance between hops and malts. I love the fact that I can’t taste the 9% ABV. This beer was worrying me with the weak aroma, but the flavors came in strong. Nice sweet sugar/malt taste. After the sweet flavors the hops start to kick in. This beer is excellent. I enjoy this one a lot. Good brew. Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Feb 26, 2009 Bitter and malty, but the only thing pleasant about this beer was the smell. I would not order it again. BVery (446), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA Feb 25, 2009 TAP: brown/amber pour, low head and good lacing. Very good brown ale/strong ale taste - some brown sugar and sweetness. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Feb 25, 2009 Ryan/Casey. Amber body with healthy rocky head. Nice hoppy, sugary nose with alcohol notes. Toasty and malty up front, with caramel noticeable. Also quite a bit of alcohol. Then gets sweeter, with taste of molasses. Smooth. Oily finish. Enjoyable. j12601 (1151), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Feb 22, 2009 On tap at the Golden Rail. Pours a deep ruby brown with a thin to medium sized tan head. Nose is brown sugar and sweet malt. Strong and sweet with stone fruit and even a touch of chocolate milkshake in the body. The 9% ABV is covered up early on in the pint, but starts to kick later on, which detracts from an otherwise solid beer. Light bitter finish. Quite the strong strong ale.
