Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Jan 1, 2009 The first Lagunitas beer that I ever sampled, right before seeing one of my favorite concerts ever, the Pixies live in Eugene in 2004. Nice brown pour with a very small white head. Very well balanced between a caramelly malt flavor and a big pine and earthy hop backbone. Alcohol is quite prominent as well, but not in an unpleasant way. Plus one of my favorite beer names ever! punkrkr27 (608), Berkley, Michigan, USA Dec 31, 2008 Mahogany pour with a short lived, one finger, off white head. Hearty pine, toasted caramel, and citrus aroma. Loads of toasted malt and caramel flavor with a good dose of citrus and pine hops on the finish with just a hint of alcohol. Medium body with lots of carbonation. Good winter beer but not a whole lot of depth. Rciesla (3510), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Dec 17, 2008 Draft pours an amber body with a tan head. Big malty caramel with huge hop character loads of pine and earthy hops, with loads of grain and dry earthy bitter hops. dwaggs2 (532), Lee’s Summit, Missouri, USA Dec 15, 2008 Bottle. Pours a brownish color with a decent head. Smell is sugar, some hops, caramel, and alcohol. Taste is very warming as it goes down. A great decent beer. BeerBiker (1384), Odense, Denmark Dec 13, 2008 2 years old. Nice with a good amount of hops. Brown with beige head. Caramel and portnotes. Warming alcohol. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 27, 2008 Amazing balanced beer, despite the funky name, this beer is just one awesome offering by Lagunitas.
Pours hazy copper, tan head.
Aroma is hoppy (floral) with plenty of nice caramel malts and hazelnut touch to balance.
Taste, hoppy with a good malty character / chocolate and nutty. Worth noting some nice sugary touch that just balance very well with the light bitterness of the hops balanced with the barley that is just present throughout.
Aftertaste and finish are of a subtle hops and spices with caramel covering the back of the palate.

Pours a dark mahogany with a a decent head and lacing. Smells of spices and dark malts. Taste is of dark malt immediately countered by a spiciness that mixes very nicely with the alcohol. A hint of hop bitterness nicely balances the brew. The feel is a bit strong on the tongue with the carbonation, but not overbearing.
A nice, well-balanced brew. I have had this in the past and it is even better than I remember it.

Bitter flavours, good raisiny nut flavours. Very good, a blow to the taste buds, but still a well-balanced blow. A barley wine with still noticeable hop bitterness.
