Nice copper pour with lively carbonation and a strong, sugary malt aroma. Upon sipping, however, a strong hop presence emerges, more on the harsh than the floral side. Fairly well balanced, and certainly enjoyable, but not too distinct from many of Lagunitas’ strong ale offerings. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 9, 2008 Pours a clear mahogany with a smallish tan head atop and nice lacing. Aroma is fruity sweet, caramel and some toastiness. Flavor is very malty, toasted, melon, cherry, caramel and nice floral bitterness. Full body, sticky texture. tronraner (1911), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours mahogany in color with small tan head. The aroma is brown sugar, cola, and some light fruitiness. The flavor is brown sugar, orange, a little bit of bitter chocolate. It finishes fuzzy and slightly bitter with some fruit and char in the aftertaste. Good, but it seems like it’s missing something. StFun (535), Indiana, USA

I am usually not a fan of "boozy" type beers, as the booze tends to take away from the flavor, but this is one case where I think that more booze could have helped this beer (much like it helps Nor’Easter, for example) ! This one has a lot going for it. Nice malt backbone, yeasty aroma and flavor, a nice carmel/malt flavor that is never too sweet or sticky, and finishes with a touch of candy in the finish. This one is fairly complex, as different flavors come in and out of the mix with each sip. A very very tasty brew, and one that would make a good occasional session beer (if that makes sense). I really liked this one a lot, I just wish it had been a bit stronger. ucusty (1881), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA
