BelgianBeerGal (1275), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jun 19, 2008 Draught. Honestly wasn’t sure what I was ordering but was pleasantly surprised. Darker colour than expected, brown with ruby highlights. Flavours: brown sugar, whiskey and warming alcohol. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 19, 2008 Appearance: Pours a dark reddish-brown body with a small, thinning, white head.
Smell: A scent of freshly opened boxes of raisins overlaying a light, earthy maltiness and notes of sherry and roast.
Taste: Moderately sweet, earthy maltiness with just a slight roastiness. Prominent raisin fruitiness. Light sherry, some spices, and even a dash of coffee. Medium-light bitterness. Hint of alcohol on the drying, lightly astringent finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation.
Drinkability: A bit too sweet and a bit too coarse, though it fits the name. thejon375 (390), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 15, 2008 WOW!! Was not expecting much of this ale but was blown away. Great dark tan head, rich brown color, and coffee, toffee, whiskey flavor. Excellent beer would recommend to anyone. polomagnifico (532), Saginaw, Michigan, USA Jun 13, 2008 Holy crap! Bottle with big thanks to dchmela! Aroma has sweet notes of caramel, dried dark fruits, brown sugar, and some black licorice. Lovely! Medium brown amber hue with a small disappearing off-white head that leaves little lace. Flavor is sticky sweet caramel, prune, raisin, licorice, and a slight roast and bitterness. Palate is full/medium bodied and oily soft. Very good brew but I’m surprised to not see it listed as a barely wine. Nice and sweet with a killer bw aroma. But the palate is a little off and the finish does leave me wondering just what the heck is going on here, but I like it. arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 9, 2008 Serving type: bottle

Poured a dark brown with a cream-colored head. Taste was very strange, alcohol, sugary, malty, weird. I do not know what to think of this beer. I think I liked the Brown Shugga much better. Oh well, I’ll put some in the cellar and see how it does next year.
NMC01 (58), Denmark Jun 8, 2008 Great malt profile with loads of dried fruit and caramel. All balanced lovely with hops and carried to a higher level with a well covered alcohol burden. Yummy! This is one heck of an ale! Maverick34 (686), New York, USA Jun 7, 2008 Draft. Poured a dark brown with a moderate head. Sweet smells, malts and such pretty good I thought. AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Jun 4, 2008 On tap @ First St. Alehouse. Pours deep ruddy brown with a decent, dark cream colored head. The nose is rich and sweet, with caramel, brown sugar, molasses, and toasted malt. The flavor is much the same, but the finish is the smoothest caramel that I have ever tasted. That really made this beer for me. Smooth on the palate as well.
