phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jun 1, 2008 This beer pours a dark brown colour with a small off white head. Aroma is sort of woodsy, caramel and biscuit malts. Flavors of nuts, spices and maple syrup. another tastey beer from Lagunitas. Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jun 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear mahogany with 2 finger rocky beige head and decent lacing. Nose is sweet malt, molasses , dark fruits and alcohol – a bit barleywine-like. Palate is sweet upfront with brown sugar and caramel with a roasted malt background. A touch of hops on the finish with some alcohol burn. Semi-chewy mouth feel. Decent brew. IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA May 30, 2008 Pour is dark brown/golden with short lasting tan head. Aroma is of strong roasted caramel and malt. Flavor is very roasted with a lot of caramel. Smooth going down as well as warming. Alcohol hidden well. Good brew. Would buy again. jeremytoni (1069), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA May 27, 2008 On tap at the Sidecar poured a nice amber color with a good amount of head. Nice strong, sweet malty flavor with a lasting finish. topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA May 24, 2008 Pours a reddish brown. Lots of sweet malt and ripe fruit in the aroma. Flavor is sweet, brown sugar, ripe fruit, sweet malt, with a sprinkling of hops. changeup45 (782), Orlando, Florida, USA May 23, 2008 The name is funny. There is nothing funny about the beer. Pours a deep amber color topped with a thin head. Aroma is quite sugary and alcoholic with plums and maybe some figs. The flavor consists of toasted malts, a rush of alcohol and sugars along with some dark fruit character; plums, figs and molasses. A real solid sipper while being easy to drink. skoisirius (570), Seattle, Washington, USA May 21, 2008 Crazy I haven’t rated this yet. I’ve had this brew in many different ways including: on tap, in the bottle, 1 year, and 2 years aged. It’s always an enjoyable experience...although, once the 2 year mark hit, it does retreat into a tiny bit of flatness. It would be sweet if they ever barrel aged this into something...333rd Rating. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA May 19, 2008 12 oz bottle: Ruby brown pour with a thick, frothy head that laces well. This is all about the malt - caramalized sugars dominate the nose, with lighter notes of cherry juice, bourbony plums and vanilla beans adding complexity. The body is thick and chewy. A nice dose of bittering hops balance things in the body. After the initial wall of green pine passes, a rush of cane sugar hits the tongue. Wow - even with the intense bitterness, the sugary malts win over the tongue in this one. It almost becomes hard to drink as the sugary notes of toffee, caramel and raisins become super rich and cloying. Seems like a little finesse would help to define the malts better and create a better drinkability.
