Suttree (2702), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 19, 2008 Wow, very sweet - a lot of caramel and toffee and molassess and brown sugar. It doesn’t seem cloying, but it does seem very heavy. Some woodsy hops in the finish, but mostly a lot of sweet malts. jcr (1136), Jasper, Indiana, USA May 18, 2008 Bottle. Similar to Imperial Red but sweeter, the balance tilted toward the malts. I liked it better, but not by much. I got tired of both by the end of the glass — especially the heavy, grainy flavors so prominent in American strong ales. The body is like dark iced tea, the head off-white and short. The aroma was sweet with caramel and brown sugar and notes of grain, bread and nuts and alcohol. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter with the taste of bitter grain. The finish turns moderately bitter and a bit of pepper sneaks through. Medium body with a watery texture that turns sticky in the finish. Alcohol burn and then warming. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA May 16, 2008 12 oz bottle. Clear mahogany red with a slight brown head. Big, sweet, spicy caramel nose. Sweet toffee and malt, some tannic flavors well up as it warms. A good drinker for a big beer. Full, satin body. Nice! dwh50 (46), Clay, New York, USA May 14, 2008 Malty aroma and flavor. I would classify this as a Scotch Ale.Smooth with a peek of alcohol. I drink Vodka from the bottle, the alcohol is welcome. anthlovesbeer (67), north grafton, Massachusetts, USA May 13, 2008 Yet another awesome ale from Lagunitas Brewing Company! Very smooth for 9% . From the opening to the last sip, this ale is just perfect! Khilger (3), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA does not count May 12, 2008 A good beer, but a little thick and malty for my taste. Not much of a distinct aroma... but beautiful dark caramel color. Unique packaging MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA May 10, 2008 Bottle from Canals. Amber pour with a thick tan head. Malty sour aroma. Tastes of sweet malt with a yeast note and possible brown sugar. It was ok for me. Not too bad. corby112 (671), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 9, 2008 Pours a dark chestnut brown with off-white head. Pleasant aroma of dark fruit, maltiness, caramel and spice. Flavor very similar with lots of maltiness, fig, cinnamon and brown sugar.
