jfenglish (198), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 26, 2008 Draft- Chef Paul’s. Dark ruby red in a snifter, head dissipates quickly but nice lacing remains. Heavy alcohol and sweet malts & cherries up-front. Ends bitter. Profile is almost like a barleywine with the heavy malt, hop profile, yet the body was much lighter than I expected. Overall it’s OK, but nothing spectacular. theisti (1640), Leawood, Kansas, USA Apr 25, 2008 12 oz bottle purchased at 99 Bottles in Federal Way, Washington. I purchased this in March, 2008 - I believe this is the 2008 Vintage. No marking on the bottle. Pour is clear ruby mahogany with a 2 inch tan head which retreated to leave some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of slightly metallic caramel malt. There is also some pine hop mixed it. Taste is fairly mild, some grassy pine hop bitterness mixed with biscuit maltiness. The metallic is in the taste as well, though more muted. Palate is medium, and silky. Overall, decent. larsga (2937), Oslo, Norway Apr 25, 2008 Medium beige head. Deep dark red barely translucent body. Intense deep rich malty raisiny aroma with fruity notes. Deep, intense sharp firm malty minty taste with caramelly licorice notes. Dryish grassy intensely malty aftertaste with notes of crackers. Just excellent. (0.355l bottle from gr0ve.) esjaygee (1467), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Apr 24, 2008 It seems like a good beer, but the alcohol ruins it in the end. It was touch choking this one down because my tongue and chest burned with each sip. Deep cooper with a thin off-white head. Aroma of toasted malts, alcohol, brad and toffee. Taste of alcohol at first leading way to caramel and sweet malts. It finishes sweet and dry and of course, alcoholic. TeamTrappist (367), jericho, New York, USA Apr 23, 2008 Draft at DBA. Poured mahogany with a thin small head. Tasted raisins and other fruits, had a sweetish frutiy aftertaste with a strong alcohol bite. blklab2007 (943), Connecticut, USA Apr 23, 2008 bottle poured a red amber in color with a thin tan head and steady carbonation. aroma has sweet caramel malt, spiced hops, sweet citrus, and pine. mouth feel starts light and then turns to malt thickness. flavor is well malted with a thicker and creamier body then i was anticipating. hops play in with spice and some resinous character finishing with bitterness and sugar. really a chewy ale with carbonation that froths it up. greenleaf (90), Florida, USA Apr 21, 2008 Bottle 12oz. Pours a clear dark brown with red highlights. An off white head that dissapates quickly and does not really lace. Nose is surely raisin and caramel as is the taste. adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 21, 2008 On draft at the GL. Pours a clear dark burgundy with a small beige head. Aroma of candied sugar and sweet malt. Taste of malt and light candied sugar. Has a tangy finish.
